Job Description

Duties  
  • Provide psychotherapeutic services, in accordance with Regulations, Standards of Professional Conduct, under the clinical supervision of a Registered Psychologist.
  • Conduct psychological assessments including cognitive assessments and risk assessments, clinical consultation, and perform psychological investigation and assessment including selection, administration, scoring and interpretation of a variety of standardized assessment techniques, under the clinical supervision of a Registered Psychologist.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of psychotherapeutic treatment programs utilizing techniques such as individual and/or group therapy, behavior modification, social/cognitive and coping life skills training.
  • Provide consultation and education to clients.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams and committees.
  • Maintain knowledge, skills and abilities by keeping up to date regarding professional standards through reviewing current literature, attending workshops/seminars, networking and consultation with colleagues.
  • Participate in teaching and education of students from health-related disciplines.
  • Participate in research (data collection, analysis, etc.) as directed.
  • Provide regular reports regarding workload statistics.
  • Participate in advancing the goals and objectives of the Forensic Treatment Unit Program.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Harassment Free Workplace policy.
 Qualifications:
  • Master’s in clinical psychology, from an accredited university with appropriate clinical training.
  • Registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is required.
  • Knowledge of psychometric tests and assessment procedures appropriate for use with a forensic population. 
  • Training and clinical experience with individual and group therapies, and/or assessments (psychological, cognitive, risk assessments).
  • Commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.
  • Sound understanding of forensic mental health and an understanding of areas of vulnerability for this population.
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check for the vulnerable sector.
  • Ability to work actively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and with other service providers.
  • Ability to conduct assessments with persons with varying levels of cognitive ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Psychotherapy Act, Substitute Decisions Act, CCC, CSA) impacting on practice in this mental health and forensic setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with clients, family and other caregivers.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression.  Bilingualism an asset.
