The Senior Psychologist in Motor Neurone Disease is a specialist clinical role within the Department of Psychology, Beaumont Hospital. The post-holder will provide evidence-based psychological assessment, intervention, consultation and support to patients attending Motor Neurone Disease (MND) services.
This role is part of the modernised care pathway for MND and integrates specialised psychological support directly into the national multidisciplinary MND service. This modernised care pathway outlines the optimal steps in caring for a patient with a specific clinical condition. It moves away from traditional, fragmented hospital models to create a seamless, efficient journey from diagnosis to recovery or long-term management.The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team across inpatient and outpatient settings to support patients experiencing psychological distress, adjustment difficulties, cognitive and behavioural difficulties associated with neurodegenerative illness. The post-holder will contribute to service development, supervision, teaching, research and quality improvement initiatives within MND services.
