He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Property Department has an opportunity for a Senior Property Transaction Advisor within the Property Transactions team.

This role plays a critical part in delivering Auckland Council’s strategic property objectives through the provision of expert in-house advice and leadership across acquisitions, disposals, and related property transactions. You’ll work in partnership with cross-organisational teams to plan, contract, and deliver end-to-end property projects in line with statutory requirements and Council priorities.

Your work will directly support Council’s ability to deliver key infrastructure and community outcomes, ensuring acquisition and disposal programmes are executed effectively and on time.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Leading end-to-end property acquisition and disposal projects
  • Negotiating sale and purchase agreements and transaction terms
  • Managing consultants, contractors, and specialist advisors
  • Providing strategic property advice across Council initiatives
  • Monitoring project budgets, risks, and delivery timeframes

This role requires experience in senior property transaction or advisory roles, with a sound understanding of complex acquisition and disposal processes within a public sector or consultancy environment.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Managing complex, high-value property acquisitions and disposals
  • Applying the Public Works Act and relevant statutory frameworks
  • Property valuation methodologies and negotiation strategy
  • End-to-end project management and contractor oversight
  • Stakeholder engagement across multi-disciplinary environments


He kōrero mōu: About you

This role requires deep experience in the property transactions space, ideally within a large, complex, or political organisation.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Property or Law
  • 10+ years’ experience in property acquisitions, disposals, consultancy, or valuation
  • Strong knowledge of the Auckland property market and development processes
  • Applied knowledge of the Public Works Act, RMA, Local Government Act, and LINZ processes
  • Accreditation with a relevant professional body (valuation accreditation desirable)
