Employment Type: Full-time, Maximum-term (until June 2028)

Salary: $100,000-$120,000 per annum (plus super)

VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.

We have 34 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 78,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. About the role

The Senior Project Officer, Advocacy Evidence Translation will support the execution of VACCHO’s advocacy campaigns. VACCHO’s advocacy campaigns include activities that foster awareness and convince people of the need for change. These campaigns aim to build coalitions of supporters and influence decision makers to change policies, legislation and funding outcomes. This role will lead the development of materials to support advocacy campaigns including but not limited to position statements, fact sheets, evidence briefs, written submissions, and other innovative persuasive written materials. The Senior Project Officer will support VACCHO’s executive to be prepared to meet with Members of Parliament, media and representative forums, as well as directly engaging in stakeholder management and meetings. This role will lead and contribute to evidence-based advocacy outputs at VACCHO, including ensuring that evaluation processes support the collection of relevant data and directly drafting written materials. This role will work closely with a range of internal teams to develop solutions for change.

Essential skills/experiences

  • Strong ability to translate complex data into plain English.
  • Demonstrated internal stakeholder and strong cross team collaboration skills.
  • Adaptable, team player who can work across a broad range of issues and campaigns.
  • Strong communicator who can translate evidence into compelling narratives that encourage reform and change.
  • Ability to empathetically and safely work alongside and translate data involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and sensitive issues
  • Ability to identify and enact process improvements
  • Tertiary education such as a Masters of Policy, Bachelor of Arts etc (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Ability to critically analyze, assess, and synthesize data and peer-reviewed literature into usable information.
  • Exceptional written skills, with a proven ability to translate highly technical data into lay terminology
  • Demonstrated understanding of persuasive communication and writing to an audience, including parliamentary stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of research design, evaluation methodologies, and qualitative/quantitative data analysis
  • Ability to identify, build and manage stakeholder relationships
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management) combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do.
  • Tertiary research experience (such as a minor or major thesis)
  • Experience authoring policy and advocacy documents
  • Experience working with complex stakeholders to develop case studies
