The Department for Infrastructure and Transport plays a vital role connecting people and places in South Australia by managing roads, marine and public transport networks across the State, and builds and maintains the State-owned infrastructure that enables the delivery of essential and important government services to our community.

The Heavy Vehicle Policy team leads the development and delivery of South Australia’s heavy vehicle and freight transport policy agenda, working with state, national and industry partners to improve safety, productivity, network efficiency and support nationally significant transport reforms.

This role leads policy, project and reform initiatives across the heavy vehicle and freight sectors, providing strategic advice on matters that influence safety, productivity, infrastructure and economic outcomes. The position plays a key role in shaping South Australia's contribution to nationally significant transport reforms, supporting major road and transport infrastructure projects, and advancing innovative heavy vehicle solutions that improve freight efficiency and network performance. Working across government, industry and national regulators, the role builds strong partnerships, influences policy outcomes and delivers practical, evidence-based solutions to complex transport challenges.

We are seeking a proactive and forward-thinking professional who thrives in a dynamic and complex environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong policy, analytical and project management skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly through both written and verbal advice. They will be confident preparing executive briefings, reports and strategic recommendations, building productive stakeholder relationships, and influencing outcomes across a diverse range of interests. A strong interest in transport reform, freight productivity and emerging technologies, combined with sound judgement and a solutions-focused approach, will be essential to success in the role.

Educational Qualifications / Licences

• Appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent or relevant professional experience is desirable.
• A degree in Engineering providing eligibility for membership as a Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (Engineers Australia) is required.

Special Conditions

• A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
• A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.
• Some out of hours and weekend work along with some intra / interstate travel may be required.

Remuneration

ASO6 - $105,747 to $111,854 pa + superannuation.

PO3 - $111,870 to $119,994 pa + superannuation.
