Senior Project Officer – Contaminated Land Management

The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Project Officer to join the NSW EPA’s Contaminated Land Management team in the Regulatory Practice & Services division.

This is a technical contaminated land management role. To be successful in this role you will have significant experience and expertise in contaminated land management, including a strong knowledge and practical experience in human health and ecological risk assessment.

In this role your regular duties will include:

• Providing technical contaminated land advice and support to staff across the EPA and other NSW government agencies, for example by undertaking detailed technical reviews of contaminated land reports, including human health ecological risk assessments.
• Communicating contaminated land best practice to internal and external stakeholders through presentations, meetings, and webinars, including the development and delivery of training on contaminated land matters.
• Working on the development and update of technical contaminated land policies and guidelines.
• Undertaking tasks as part of the EPA's administration of the NSW Site Auditor Scheme.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

• Significant experience and expertise in contaminated land management, including a strong understanding of relevant statutory and non-statutory contaminated land management guidelines.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in human health and ecological risk assessment, and the application of risk-based principles to contaminated land decision-making.
• A sound understanding of the NSW Site Auditor Scheme and its role in contaminated land management.
• A comprehensive understanding of the NSW contaminated land management framework, including the EPA's regulatory role and relevant contaminated land legislation.
• Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain and present complex technical contaminated land information to a range of audiences, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and manage competing workloads.

About the team

The Contaminated Land Management Team is one of the EPA’s Technical Services teams. The team administers the NSW EPA’s site auditor scheme, provides technical contaminated land advice and support to staff across the EPA and to other NSW government agencies and leads on the development and update of technical contaminated land polices and guidelines.
