This posting includes three Senior Project Manager positions: Sustainable Transportation (1 permanent position), and Complete Streets (1 permanent position, 1 temporary position up to two years). The Sustainable Transportation position focuses on implementing projects and initiatives to expand and improve the City’s walking and cycling networks and to promote sustainable modes of transportation. The Complete Streets positions focus on implementing the Transportation Master Plan policies for creating streets for all users and modes as part of road urbanization, mainstreet, and integrated renewal projects.


You are responsible for managing short- and long-term strategic transportation planning studies - including integrated concept plans for specific sub-areas of the city, transportation needs assessments and feasibility studies, environmental assessment studies, development of business cases, and preparation of functional designs for transit (light rail and bus), road, bridge, pedestrian and cycling facility projects; overseeing study activities undertaken by multi-disciplinary consultant project teams and in-house staff; ensuring all work is completed in accordance with the City’s Official Plan and Transportation Master Plan policies and other related guidelines and standards; and liaising and coordinating study activities with various departments in the City of Ottawa, City of Gatineau, federal and provincial ministries/departments and other agencies.

You also develop implementation strategies and evaluate priorities for funding infrastructure in the City’s annual budget; provide technical support on transportation issues and undertake research and analysis on transportation matters; monitor the City’s implementation of transportation projects for compliance with approved environmental assessments and other plans; and function as a member of an interdisciplinary team on interdepartmental projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of 4 year university degree in Engineering or urban/regional or environmental planning.

Minimum of 8 years of related experience

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with Ontario Professional Planners Institute OR Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario, or able to obtain licence within timeframe determined by employer

KNOWLEDGE

  • City of Ottawa Official Plan (OP) and Transportation Master Plan (TMP) OR Solid Waste Master Plan (SWMP) and related guidelines and practices

  • Capital budgeting process
  • Processes for developing RFQs, RFPs and the consultant selection process
  • Computer applications pertaining to project management, database management, spreadsheets, word processing, and SAP
  • General knowledge of various software applications pertaining to Total Station surveys and Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Protocols for preparing reports, briefings and other communiqués, and those pertaining to public consultation, and responding to senior management/councillor inquiries
  • Principles of project management, including WBS as a planning tool, cost containment/control and reporting of multi-year, highly complex high-dollar value projects
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
