HumeLink West Project

Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the ~140km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

The Opportunity

This role will be based in the Wagga Wagga area for the duration of the project supporting the HumeLink West construction delivery team. The role will work Monday to Friday and may be required to work non-traditional hours in line with construction works.

Key Accountabilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – Substations to lead the successful delivery of three high-voltage substations as part of a nationally significant transmission infrastructure project.

Reporting to the Construction Director, you will have overall accountability for the safe, commercial and timely delivery of the substations from design coordination through construction, commissioning and handover.

You will provide leadership to a team of two Project Managers, ensuring consistent project controls, strong stakeholder engagement and high-performing delivery teams.

·Lead the end-to-end delivery of three substation projects, ensuring safety, quality, programme and commercial objectives are achieved.

·Develop and implement delivery strategies aligned with project milestones and contractual obligations.

·Manage project budgets, forecasting, cost control and financial performance.

·Ensure effective planning, scheduling and resource allocation across multiple work fronts.

·Drive a proactive safety culture that delivers exceptional WHS outcomes.

·Manage design, procurement, construction, commissioning and client handover activities.

·Identify, manage and mitigate project risks and opportunities.

·Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, regulators and key stakeholders.

·Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, environmental approvals, quality standards and company governance.

·Report project performance, risks and strategic issues to the Project Director and Executive Leadership Team.

·Foster collaboration across engineering, commercial, construction, HSE, quality and People & Culture functions.

About You

You are an experienced infrastructure leader with a proven record of successfully delivering complex, high-value construction projects. You possess strong commercial acumen, exceptional leadership capability and the ability to motivate multidisciplinary teams to achieve outstanding outcomes.

You will ideally possess:

·Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.

·Extensive experience delivering high-voltage substation, transmission, power or major infrastructure projects.

·Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects and leading senior project teams.

·Proven capability managing project budgets, forecasting and commercial performance.

·Strong knowledge of contract administration and risk management.

·Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.

·Strong leadership, coaching and people development capability.

·Sound understanding of WHS legislation and major project governance.

·Experience working within alliance, EPC or major infrastructure delivery environments.

·The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.

Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to successful appointment.
