About the Role:

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) oversees the entire structural design process from inception to completion. The SPM applies engineering standards and leverages industry-specific software to manage design and documentation tasks. With expertise in structural engineering concepts and building codes, the Senior PM supervises project work, coordinates with clients, architects, and other team members and provides creative solutions within the project framework. Additionally, they handle cost and personnel estimation, proposal preparation, while contributing to project staffing discussions.

What You'll Do:

• Lead structural engineering projects from concept through construction, ensuring technical excellence, quality, budget compliance, and on-time delivery.
• Oversee the design and analysis of structural systems using industry-standard software, including STAAD.Pro, RAM, ABAQUS, and AutoCAD.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, BIM technicians, and project team members, providing technical guidance, training, and quality oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage the preparation and review of structural calculations, construction documents, specifications, shop drawings, and technical reports.
• Coordinate structural designs with clients, architects, contractors, municipal agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams to achieve project objectives.
• Review RFIs, contractor submittals, and construction documents, providing practical solutions and ensuring alignment with design intent.
• Monitor project schedules, staffing needs, resource allocation, and project budgets while proactively addressing challenges and maintaining project momentum.
• Develop creative engineering solutions, identify critical project risks, and lead teams through complex technical problem-solving efforts.
• Prepare fee proposals, participate in contract and scope reviews, and contribute to project budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, support business development initiatives, and help generate new opportunities through networking, industry involvement, presentations, and thought leadership.
• Lead project meetings, presentations, and stakeholder discussions while ensuring clear communication and accountability among all parties.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement across project teams and the broader organization.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant experience in structural analysis, building design, and project management; or a Master's degree with 10+ years of related experience.
• Minimum of 9 years of experience performing and supervising structural engineering design and analysis projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Extensive experience using structural engineering software including STAAD.Pro, RAM, ABAQUS, and AutoCAD.
• Strong background in structural steel design, with experience in concrete, masonry, wood, and light-gauge steel structures.
• Demonstrated success managing engineering projects, including staffing, budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and client coordination.
• Deep knowledge of local and national building codes, industry standards, and structural engineering best practices.
• Experience preparing and managing construction document packages, including plans, details, schedules, specifications, and related deliverables.
• Strong understanding of construction administration processes, contractor coordination, shop drawing review, RFI responses, and submittal review.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams while fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
• Exceptional analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to develop practical and innovative engineering solutions.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong business acumen with experience supporting proposals, project financial management, client development, and business growth initiatives.
• Self-motivated leader who demonstrates professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, and a commitment to technical excellence.
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
• Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and twelve (12) years relevant work experience in structural analysis and building design with an emphasis on structural steel buildings, including project management; ; or
• Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and ten (10) years relevant work experience in structural analysis and building design with an emphasis on structural steel buildings, including project management; .
• Minimum 9 years of experience in performing and supervising the design and analysis.
• Minimum 9 years of experience utilizing software packages such as STAAD PRO, RAM, ABAQUS for Finite Element Modeling, and AutoCAD.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Minimum (Required) Skills:

• Project Management experience in leading the preparation of construction document plan drawings, plans, schedules, details, and specifications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Team leadership ability and excellent communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
• Experience with concrete, structural steel, masonry, wood, and light gauge structures.
• Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

• Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Structural Engineer (SE) license.

At DeSimone Consulting Engineering, we’re committed to transparency—especially when it comes to compensation. The salary range listed reflects what we believe, in good faith, is a fair and competitive range for this role based on the market and location.

This is a salaried, exempt position with an anticipated base salary range of $135,850–$159,500, depending on experience and qualifications. Most candidates are typically hired near the midpoint of the range, ensuring a balanced and equitable approach across our team.
