Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists within Stantec's Water Sector for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join and lead our team in Memphis, Tennessee. As the successful candidate, you will use your technical abilities to plan project execution including resourcing, budgets and schedules, prepare task orders, manage contracts, and use your business development capabilities to interact and engage with clients primarily in the municipal water and wastewater market sector as part of a dynamic design team.

Your Key Responsibilities

As Senior Project Manager/ Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of successful water/wastewater municipal projects by helping to identify, pre-position and win pursuits, scope and manage cost effective, practical designs and construction solutions for our clients. You will interact internally throughout the organization with staff at all levels as well as clients, members of professional organizations, subcontractors, and other firms. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Working effectively with all project team members, including the client, project manager, project technical leads and junior staff.
  • Develop long-lasting partnerships with our clients in the Memphis market, maintain positive client relationships, and understand our client's needs to facilitate full-service offerings.
  • Identifying and pre-positioning for opportunities in the Memphis Water market. Engaging and bringing Stantec technical leadership to interface with local clients
  • Leading and assisting in developing project scope, budgets, and design for various sized projects, leading marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing proposals, participating in client interviews, and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
  • Coordinating with engineers and technical staff to ensure that the projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner
  • Maintaining and enhancing our reputation with clients, approval agencies, and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
  • Managing project budgets, staff allocation for projects, and preparing and reviewing invoices prior to issuance to the client
  • Growing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec’s reputation in the Memphis market and identifying additional talent to join our team.
  • Talent recruitment and development. Identifying and recruiting additional potential team members to build Stantec’s local Memphis Water team, while working with our established regional Water network of practitioners.
  • Following established processes for obtaining necessary project approvals from various agencies
  • Preparing or leading detailed design calculations, developing construction drawings and specifications, and overseeing design implementation.
  • Writing or leading technical reports and design briefs to document analyses
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of your written, technical and graphic work
  • Plan, organize, and manage the production of project deliverables to ensure on time delivery, technical quality and within budget – includes coordinating work efforts and the preparation of deliverables reports, client stewardship and coordinating with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Execute multiple concurrent projects efficiently.
  • Leadership and involvement in related professional societies, including preparation and presentation of papers at professional society conferences and seminars.
  • Mentor junior staff and supervise direct reports.
  • Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to client’s business needs.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource planning, results delivery, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong understanding of local, federal and state regulations and permitting requirements including the required supporting documentation.
  • Proven ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships.
  • Proven experience managing teams and supervising direct reports.
  • Knowledge of documents related to requests for proposals, invitations for bid, and tendering offers.
  • Project and task management experience with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent technical writing, organizational, and communications skills.
  • Efficient project management/technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Understand client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high quality deliverables.
  • Effective communicator and able to work on and lead/build teams.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment, water treatment, water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation.
  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of design and construction codes.
  • Ability to travel as needed to fill role responsibilities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (minimum) in Civil, Water Resources, Biological Systems, or Environmental Engineering, or other closely related degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience in a similar role required.
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience with large project or contract management responsibilities required.
  • Professional Licensure (P.E.) preferred. Registered in Tennessee or ability to obtain reciprocity.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
