Project / Department Overview

The role is intended for an experienced Senior Project Manager who will take responsibility for IT infrastructure projects from setup through completion. The position focuses on project steering, operational task management, stakeholder coordination, risk and change management, budget control, quality assurance, and resource management.

The Senior Project Manager will manage complex IT projects with a focus on infrastructure, communication technology, data center environments, and migration of IT systems. The role requires strong project leadership skills, structured communication, and the ability to coordinate internal teams, customers, suppliers, operations, and field service stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Lead and manage IT infrastructure projects from project setup to final completion.
  • Ensure achievement of project objectives regarding timelines, costs, quality, and scope.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously update project plans.
  • Provide transparent and regular project status reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with project-specific implementation requirements and internal standards.
  • Independently define, structure, and coordinate work packages.
  • Coordinate effort estimations and service descriptions.
  • Prepare data analyses and decision-making documents for project and management stakeholders.
  • Act as the central point of contact for customers, operations, suppliers, and field service teams.
  • Actively manage expectations, stakeholder relationships, and project communication.
  • Plan and conduct internal and external workshops.
  • Identify and coordinate dependencies between projects, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor project risks and manage change requests within the project environment.
  • Control project costs and ensure budget compliance.
  • Conduct lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of working methods and processes.
  • Manage project resources and coordinate required capacities.
  • Apply classical, hybrid, or agile project management methods depending on project requirements.
  • Use project management tools such as Jira, MS Project, and Microsoft Office for planning, tracking, documentation, and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Completed degree in business administration, business informatics, computer science, or a comparable IT-related field.
  • Alternatively, completed commercial vocational training or recognized IT vocational training combined with relevant professional experience.
  • Candidates without a university degree should have at least 6 years of relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of common project management standards.
  • Project management certification, at least IPMA Level D or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of ITIL and service management.
  • ITIL Foundation certification or proven practical experience in service management is desirable.

Required Professional Experience

The candidate should have:

  • At least 6 years of experience leading IT projects
  • At least 6 years of experience in IT projects focused on infrastructure, communication technology, and migration of IT systems
  • At least 4 years of experience as a project team member in IT projects with a focus on data center infrastructure
  • At least 6 years of practical experience as a project manager using classical, hybrid, or agile project management methods
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira or comparable tools.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Practical knowledge of MS Project.
  • Experience in budget control, resource planning, project reporting, risk management, and change management.
  • Experience coordinating suppliers, operations teams, customers, and technical service teams.
  • Experience preparing decision papers, project plans, effort estimations, and service descriptions.

Language Requirements

  • German: C1 level according to CEFR.
  • English: B1 level according to CEFR.

Proof of language skills may be provided through a CV, certificate, reference, self-declaration, or equivalent evidence. Native speakers are exempt from providing separate proof for the respective language.

Project Reference Requirements

If project references are required, they should include:

  • Industry
  • Project title
  • Short project description
  • Performance period in month and year format
  • FTE allocation
  • Detailed description of the candidate's responsibilities and activities in the project

Only project references with a duration of at least 6 months and an allocation of at least 0.6 FTE should be considered.

  • Willingness to travel as required by the project.
  • Willingness to undergo a possible security clearance process.
  • Candidate profiles must include nationality information.
  • Applicable security-related country list requirements must be observed where relevant.

Additional Information

The expected remote work share is approximately 40%
on average. Business travel may be required and can account for up to 60%
of working time, although the average travel share is expected to be significantly lower.
