Position responsible for overseeing projects in the design management section and effectively providing assistance to Project Managers in general engineering activities related to design management activities for transportation, environmental, traffic and storm water projects throughout Marion County. Incumbent requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgement. Critical and often times swift decisions will have to be made without the guidance or benefit of direct supervision. Decisions can impact the City of Indianapolis, City officials and policies. Position reports to Administrator Construction.

Examples of duties

  • Provides oversight to design management of local, federal, multi-modal, transportation, structural, and stormwater projects
  • Provides technical assistance in design specification and plan interpretation, scheduling, and planning, and general engineering activities to Project Managers
  • Assists in ensuring all design management activity is performed on schedule, within budgetary limits, and in accordance with current statutes, ordinances, specifications, and contract requirements
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or certification in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Architecture, or related field and five (5+) years of equivalent experience. The position requires extensive knowledge of City, State, and FHWA policies and specifications as they relate to construction of City infrastructure. The position requires excellent oral and written skills in addition to excellent conflict resolution skills. Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications

Possession of Professional Engineer license in the state of Indiana is preferred, but not required.

Essential functions are regularly performed in an office setting without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Exposure to adverse environmental conditions associated with job sites.
