Your Impact

As Senior Project Manager for Construction projects, you will take end-to-end leadership over the construction and execution of stand-alone BESS projects across Germany. You will steer multi-disciplinary teams, manage EPC contractors and key suppliers, and represent Return as the asset owner in all technical, contractual and site-related matters.

You will play a critical role in ensuring that complex, high-value projects are delivered safely, in accordance with specification, on time, and within budget—while upholding the highest standards in engineering, quality and compliance. Your seniority will be essential in resolving strategic issues, shaping execution methodologies and guaranteeing readiness for grid integration and commercial operation.

What you will do

• Lead the full execution cycle of large-scale stand-alone BESS projects, taking senior responsibility for safe, high-quality, on-time and on-budget delivery

• Provide strategic direction to project teams and EPC partners, setting execution standards and ensuring alignment across engineering, construction, commissioning and asset management functions

• Drive key project management areas: planning, risk mitigation, stakeholder management, HSE, contract administration, site supervision, QA/QC, and interface management

• Act as Return’s senior representative towards EPC contractors, subcontractors, grid operators, technical authorities and local stakeholders

• Oversee and validate design implementation, civil works, MV/HV electrical installation, power electronics integration, and commissioning activities

• Lead the resolution of critical issues on site, ensuring continuity of execution and meeting regulatory and permitting requirements

• Collaborate with finance, legal, procurement and commissioning teams to ensure accurate cost control, contract compliance and seamless project handover

• Produce high-value reporting and decision-support documentation for senior management.

• Based in Hamburg or Munich with weekly site visits

What you bring

• Proven leadership delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects at scale, with strong authority in construction oversight and contractor management

• 15+ years of relevant experience, including 7+ years as Project Manager for construction projects in the (renewable) energy, industrial or grid infrastructure sector

• Experience in BESS, high-voltage grid connections, substations, power systems or EPC frameworks is highly preferable

• BSc or MSc in Engineering (Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Energy or related discipline)

• Solid expertise in contract management (FIDIC, EPC, or comparable frameworks) and in managing claims, change orders and performance guarantees

• Strong technical competence, combined with excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills

• Fluent in English, capable of operating in an international environment.

• High willingness to travel across Germany (frequent trips and stays on site)
