The Senior Project Manager - Civil Delivery is responsible for managing the delivery of Council civil capital works and special projects from planning and design through to construction, commissioning and handover. It oversees design, budget and procurement processes, supervises contractors, and ensures projects are delivered in line with Council policies, scope, timelines, budgets and quality standards.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Successfully deliver works of various budgets, types and complexities
  • Effectively and efficiently manage technical, professional and specialist consultants and in the development of projects
  • Objectively review project briefs to ensure they clearly define the project requirements and outcomes and develop the briefs as required
  • Ensure overall project cost estimates and project delivery timelines adequately account for all items required for successful delivery
  • Provide detailed reviews of concept plans, project designs & tender documents in accordance with project briefs, within the budget allocations and to Council standards, industry best practice and constructability considerations
  • Assist in the development of processes and procedures to help drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Implement ongoing productivity improvements.
  • Provide advice to the Manager Infrastructure Delivery on construction and contract management issues and individual contracts
  • Monitor progress of allocated projects and ensure timelines and budgets are met.
  • Provide performance reports on the progress of projects.
  • Ensure that requirements of the relevant Occupational Health and Safety Act and its subordinate regulations, Codes of Practice and Council policies and procedures, are met.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Ability to select appropriate methods, processes and equipment for the completion of tasks as required, including any improvements to methods, procedures and equipment related to the position using experience, knowledge, and advice / guidance available.
  • Capable of basing decisions on the objectives of the team and organisation.
  • Thorough knowledge of DTP Standard Specifications, EDCM specifications, project & time management, statutory regulations, principles and practice.
  • Experience in preparing and executing tender and contract documentation
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of budgeting processes
  • Ability to manage human and physical resources to achieve objectives in the most cost-efficient way, including setting priorities, planning and organising tasks, and implementing Human Resource policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan and organise work of staff and/or stakeholders design team, so that tasks are achieved within deadline of up to 12 months and set outcomes are achieved under pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with elected representatives, other government agencies, community-based organisations and the public.

Required Certifications & Qualifications (If required)

  • Degree or equivalent qualifications in civil engineering, construction management, project management or equivalent together with extensive year’s relevant experience in the project management and delivery of civil related capital works.
  • Extensive experience in negotiating superior outcomes in civil project related disputes.
  • Current drivers licence is essential.
  • White Card is essential.
