The opportunity
The Senior Project Manager is accountable for leading end-to-end delivery of medium to large, moderately to highly complex initiatives, ensuring outcomes are delivered within agreed scope, cost, schedule, quality and risk parameters. The role works across business, technology and vendor teams to drive delivery momentum, manage dependencies, resolve risks and issues, and ensure project outcomes deliver measurable business value. The role ensures delivery is clearly aligned to strategic priorities, business outcomes and agreed OKRs.
About the role:
- Lead end-to-end delivery of medium to large initiatives across business, technology and vendor teams.
- Establish clear delivery plans, milestones, governance, controls and reporting.
- Ensure project plans, milestones and trade-off decisions remain aligned to agreed business OKRs and strategic priorities.
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, issues, dependencies and benefits.
- Build strong stakeholder confidence through proactive communication, escalation and decision support.
- Lead matrixed teams and vendors to maintain delivery momentum and resolve blockers.
- Apply Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery methods as appropriate.
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills, demonstrating ability to maintain effective relationships, ensure project is aligned to business objectives and negotiate trade-offs between business need and project do-ability
- Delivering effective communications tailored for different audiences at all levels
- Strong vendor management capability, including oversight of delivery performance, commercial commitments, resource plans, risks and issue resolution
- Ability to proactively anticipate and resolve problems/roadblocks and maintain delivery momentum
- Ensure implementation, business readiness and transition activities are planned and managed to support successful adoption and operational stability.
About you:
- 10+ years’ experience managing complex business and technology projects, ideally within financial services or another highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets of $3 million to $10 million.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience in end-to-end programme/project delivery, leveraging matrixed and distributed teams of up to 40 resources
- Experience managing multiple concurrent workstreams or projects across business, technology and vendor teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Agile, Waterfall and hybrid delivery methods.
- Tertiary qualifications in business, technology, project management or a related discipline are desirable.
- Project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM, SAFe or equivalent is highly desirable.
Job Specific capabilities required:
- Proven ability to lead end-to-end delivery of complex business and technology projects using Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery approaches.
- Strong governance, planning and delivery control discipline, including management of RAID, dependencies, milestones, financials and reporting.
- Ability to lead matrixed teams, vendors and stakeholders to maintain delivery momentum and resolve blockers.
- Strong executive communication skills, including clear status reporting, risk escalation and decision framing.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen, with experience managing project budgets, forecasts, vendor costs and benefits realisation.
- Ability to create a motivating delivery environment, building a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement across business, technology and vendor team
- Ability to define, track and communicate benefits realisation, ensuring delivery outcomes translate into measurable business value.
- Experience delivering digital applications, websites, customer-facing platforms and process workflow applications, ideally within financial services or another highly regulated environment
- Strong working knowledge of Jira and Confluence, with the ability to use these tools to support delivery planning, backlog and dependency management, traceability, reporting and maintenance of key delivery artefacts.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement in a dynamic delivery environment, navigating ambiguity, adapting to changing priorities and maintaining delivery momentum against agreed outcomes.
