Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full Time Position.
The Senior Project Manager is accountable for the performance of Construction projects. This includes ensuring all construction plans are optimized to improve performance, that the project maintains CPC safety and environment targets and that the project completes within budget and schedule.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Manages development projects assigned within Capital Power’s Policies and Procedure, focusing on safety, budget and schedule.
- Develops and nurtures a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented work force.
- Assists in any planning, estimating and scheduling of related project deliverables as required.
- When not assigned to an execution project, supports BD in O2AI processes focused on project development or due diligence.
- Determines the appropriate technical project site selections, manages the initial optimal technology selection for the expected intent of the project, and develops the initial capital costs and O & M costs for use in development or acquisitions.
- Identifies the necessary budget requirements for each construction project and ensures the delivery of optimal results against the budget, site safety metrics, and schedule Enter Business Decisions.
- Hires and supervises contractors and other construction support staff.
- Provides recommendations for equipment selection, new concepts and techniques to improve performance, pre-constructability improvements, cost reductions, project design features and compliance to changes in code or regulations and provide conceptual design and cost information as well as performance for each configuration.
- Manages/Prepares appropriate technical scope of work and completes such scope using internal company resources and/or supervising external consultants.
- Responsible for ensuring project compliance with all acts and regulations enacted by government or authorities having jurisdiction.
- Provides input and recommendations to the Senior Manager’s plans and directions, ensures an appropriate understanding of Capital Power’s construction strategy and application to the specific construction site, and ensures on-going effective positioning and appropriate relationships between key stakeholders.
- Develops, implements and reviews specific construction processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensures mitigation of risks.
- Ensures all environmental requirements are clearly understood and accounted for in the development plan and monitor during execution.
- Responsible for identifying, quantifying and mitigating all project specific risks on an on-going basis throughout the project execution cycle.
- Reviews the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards.
- Supports Internal Audit during project compliance reviews.
- Effectively communicate technical information to non-technical groups within the organization.
- Supports External Relations in the management of landowners, municipal government and First Nations as required.
- Ensures optimal deliverables through effective cross-functional accountability and authority practices are followed on a consistent basis as this position’s main function relates to cross-functional deliverables within the Senior Manager’s context and prescribed limits.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- Preferred to have a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering may also qualify), or related Technical College Diploma.
Experience:
- 10+ years of project execution experience in the Power Generation industry
- Familiarity with environmental permit requirements pertaining to power plant operations and construction.
- Familiarity with regulatory permitting and compliance throughout the project cycle.
- Experience in RFP preparation, evaluation and contract negotiations.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of project management, risk management and accounting principles related to large scale industrial projects.
- In-depth understanding of contract principles and language with experience in claims negotiations.
- In-depth understanding of cost control, estimating and project reporting requirements for major project execution.
- Good working understanding of thermodynamic and electrical power principles and costs involved in the operations and construction of power generation facilities.
- Sound understanding of engineering principles related to civil, mechanical, electrical, controls and IT systems.
- Conceptual design, equipment & cycle technology selection and support RFP response
- Supported Project Economic Analysis
- Experience with acquisitions and development projects over $200 million
- Previously involved in due-diligence activities to project acquisitions and greenfield developments.
Working Conditions:
- Office based with a requirement to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Up to 25% of the time you will be expected to travel to remote job sites within North America
Additional Details:
This role is open to candidates in Edmonton or Calgary.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
