The Strategy, Support & Integrated Initiatives (SSII) division provides strategic and integrated support for Justice services and ministerial priority initiatives. The Modernization, IMT and Research (MIR) branch of SSII provides a range of professional supports and services to meet the demands of the Justice system, driving work to improve the justice system through evidence informed decision making and rigorous governance to balance competing priorities.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of the Projects and Support, the Senior Project Manager provides leadership and day-to-day management of assigned strategic initiatives and projects that are focused primarily at ministry and cross-government projects and initiatives.

These initiatives/projects are large in magnitude and are significant to the mission, goals and objectives of the Ministry. This includes, but is not limited to, the creation of project proposals and action plans, and leading resolution and managing risks and issues for management solutions to corporate (as well as public) problems where no obvious approach exists.

Key responsibilities for this position:

  • Supports the Director, Projects and Support, in achieving the mandate and goals of the unit.
  • Lead and direct work to ensure projects are managed in accordance with proven project management practices and conform to departmental and governmental policies and standards.
  • Lead the process to identify and address training and technical issues relating to staff, project managers and clients.
  • Lead the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and the RFP/Contract evaluation process.
  • Collaborate to define Project, Branch, Divisional and Departmental priorities.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of project/portfolio management frameworks that establish the departmental policies, standards, guidelines, and practices for project/portfolio management.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A related university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business etc.
  • Minimum of 4 years related experience in project management.
  • Certificate of formal training in project management.

Assets

  • Certification/designation as a project manager from the PMI.
  • Completion of a project management certificate program endorsed by the PMI.
  • Project management experience in a large complex organization.
  • Leadership experience involving complex initiatives and various stakeholders.
  • Experience with business aspects of Information Management Technology (IMT) projects, including business process re-engineering, cost/benefit analyses, and business case preparation.
  • Experience with project financial management.

  • 1 temporary (12 months) full-time position located at Oxbridge Place, 4th Floor, 9820 106 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5K 2J6.
  • Hours of work: 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo security screening.
