Our workforce consists of more than 65,000 professionals, present in more than 40 countries across the five continents, all contributing in our mission to design a better planet. Are you a passionate individual who wants to make a difference, promote sustainable development, and find solutions to the biggest global challenges including climate change, overpopulation, and water scarcity? Come and join us in building the infrastructure our planet needs to achieve a sustainable future.
An 80-year group, COBRA promotes its own efficient business model, the result of the combination of decentralization, geographical diversification and technical specialization of more than 20,000 professionals in more than 43 countries. In this way, it offers a wide range of services throughout the value chain of projects, adapted to each sector and to the scope of the contract required by our clients, both public and private. Cobra is divided into four main sectors of activity, Networks, Specialised installations, integrated projects and concession assets.
ACEREZ, a partnership of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy, has been appointed network operator by EnergyCo to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) transmission network. The ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct (D&C) consortium, will design and build the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project.
The new transmission network infrastructure will deliver at least 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity from 2028 to connect 7.7 gigawatts of wind and solar projects, which is enough to power more than 2 million homes each year.
The project consists of 90km of 500kV overhead transmission lines and 150 km of 330kV transmission lines for generator connections, stretching from Elong Elong in the west through to Barigan Creek in the east, via an energy hub at Merotherie.
Key Responsibilities
We're looking for a Senior Project Engineer – Electrical to lead the delivery of synchronous condensers and high-voltage plant across our energy hubs. These are some of the largest substations ever built in Australia, and the syncons are central to keeping the grid stable as coal retires. If you've installed and commissioned large rotating plant in high-voltage substations and want to own a package that matters, this is your project. Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Leading the electrical delivery of the synchronous condenser and associated high-voltage plant packages through to installation.
Planning and sequencing the installation of syncons, power transformers and HV switchgear across the energy hubs.
Coordinating the interface between civil, mechanical and electrical works so plant lands on schedule and to specification.
Managing subcontractors and equipment suppliers, ensuring they deliver against scope, schedule and quality requirements.
Reviewing designs, technical specifications and Inspection Test Plans, and resolving technical issues as they arise.
Making sure installation work meets our contract requirements and the relevant Australian standards.
Tracking program, cost and progress, and reporting clearly to the Construction and Project Managers.
Championing safety, quality and environmental compliance across your work fronts.
Supporting and mentoring site and junior engineers, sharing what you know and lifting the team around you.
Required Skills and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Previous experience delivering high-voltage substation or energy hub projects.
Hands-on experience installing and commissioning synchronous condensers or large rotating plant in substations.
Experience at 330kV/500kV, or a comparable transmission voltage class.
Tier 1 contractor experience on large-scale projects is preferred.
Clear verbal and written communication, and the confidence to lead.
This is a bus-in, bus-out (BIBO) role with camp accommodation provided. The roster is 14 days on, 7 days off, based in the Central-West Orana region.
We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. If you believe you bring the capabilities to succeed in this role, we’d love to hear from you. We look forward to continuing to build our supportive workplace together.
