About the role

BMD Constructions is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Engineer to join our North Queensland team. Based in Townsville, or open to candidates willing to relocate, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of upcoming road infrastructure projects, while contributing to overall project performance, commercial outcomes and team development.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take ownership of both technical and commercial aspects of project delivery, working closely with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders. You will also provide leadership and mentoring to engineers across the project team, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain strong HSEQ awareness and ensure compliance across all project activities
  • Coordinate contract administration, including insurances, bonds and project management plans
  • Monitor construction programs and drive project performance against key milestones
  • Prepare and review monthly progress claims and subcontractor statements
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier engagement, including procurement, negotiation and contract finalisation
  • Identify and manage variations, extensions of time (EOTs) and contractual risks
  • Oversee cost control, forecasting, budgeting and monthly financial reporting
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and key project stakeholders
  • Coordinate pre-start meetings and ongoing project meetings
  • Identify critical materials and resources to ensure procurement aligns with construction programs
  • Lead, mentor and develop Project Engineers and Site Engineers
  • Support design management activities and contribute to project planning and delivery strategies
  • Drive productivity and construction outcomes across large-scale civil infrastructure projects

About you

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Project Engineer or Project Engineer delivering major civil infrastructure projects
  • Proven road construction experience is essential, with experience across highways, intersections, pavements, earthworks and associated civil works
  • Pipeline construction experience will be highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of contract administration, cost control and commercial project delivery
  • Proven ability to manage subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholder relationships
  • Experience identifying and managing project risks, variations and contractual obligations
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing engineers
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • High level of organisation, planning and attention to detail
  • Commitment to safety, quality and environmental outcomes
  • Based in Townsville or willing to relocate to support upcoming North Queensland projects
