Job Description

About the Role

PSD Energy is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our Project Management team and play a key role in the delivery of major substation, solar and battery energy projects.

This role is responsible for leading and coordinating the end-to-end design process across multi-disciplinary project teams. While the position carries the title of Senior Project Engineer, the role functions as a technical lead for design delivery, ensuring design packages are accurate, compliant, constructible and aligned with client and project requirements.

You will work closely with internal engineers, external consultants, project managers, procurement, construction and commissioning teams to ensure successful design coordination and smooth project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and coordination of engineering designs across civil, structural, electrical primary and secondary, and protection systems
  • Coordinating internal engineers and external consultants to deliver complete and timely design packages
  • Maintaining ownership of design schedules and ensuring alignment with project milestones
  • Conducting regular design coordination meetings to manage risks, resolve technical issues and ensure integration across disciplines
  • Reviewing design documentation to ensure compliance with project scope, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Identifying opportunities for design optimisation and standardisation
  • Ensuring design outputs meet client, safety and construction requirements
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for design-related queries from internal delivery teams and external stakeholders
  • Facilitating client and authority approvals for designs where required
  • Supporting procurement and construction teams with design clarification and technical support throughout delivery
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers working on design components
  • Liaising with project managers, site teams and commissioning staff to support smooth design handover and issue resolution
  • Participating in internal design peer reviews and lessons learned processes

About You

You are a technically strong and collaborative engineering professional with proven experience coordinating complex design packages across infrastructure, power or renewable energy projects.

You will be confident working across multiple disciplines and stakeholders, with the ability to manage competing design interfaces, identify risks early, and support practical, constructible outcomes for project delivery teams.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in infrastructure design, ideally with a focus on substations and/or renewable energy
  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards and utility network requirements
  • Prior experience in substation or power infrastructure projects
  • Understanding of substation layouts, earthing considerations and HV equipment loading impacts
  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and the NCC
  • Ability to produce or mark up structural drawings in coordination with drafting teams
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, consultants, clients and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support project milestones in a fast-paced delivery environment

Highly Desirable

  • Experience working in an EPC or design-and-construct environment
  • Familiarity with AS/NZS 7000, AS 2067 and utility-specific structural design manuals
  • Experience using design tools and review platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit and PowerCAD
  • Experience with Procore, AutoCAD and document control platforms
  • Registered Professional Engineer status or working toward chartered status
