The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Project Engineer​ to join the Defense Computing Solutions team in Hazelwood, MO.

This role is responsible for planning and driving project execution, coordinating cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware/FPGA, software, systems, test, manufacturing), ensuring technical compliance to avionics standards, and delivering customer-ready hardware on schedule and within budget through Earned Value Management System (EVMS). The selected candidate will support Platform Mission Computers for proprietary defense applications to support the war fighter. This includes the full lifecycle engineering development from concept to operations, requirements development, design, build, test, certification, and deployment of avionics hardware. This role requires strong system engineering, analytical, problem-solving, and program/project management skills in a fast-paced team environment working with avionic hardware, firmware, software, and systems engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations and execution of a large team responsible for designing, developing, integrating, testing, certifying, and deploying complex safety-critical avionics Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) for internal Boeing Platform Partners.

  • Develop and deliver communication materials for organizational reviews and executive-level presentations.

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire engineering and technical staff across software, hardware, and systems integration disciplines.

  • Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports to support collaboration and alignment.

  • Review and approve technical strategies, deliverables, and processes while monitoring cost and schedule adherence.

  • Provide continuous feedback to leadership and actively support organizational initiatives and change management efforts.

  • Assist the Product Family Director and Program Manager in managing product lines, ensuring alignment with Boeing Values and Program Management Best Practices.

  • Collaborate effectively across all Boeing Business Units and functional areas to drive integrated solutions.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to achieve cost targets and enhance first-time quality.

  • Direct the execution of electronic and avionics development projects, managing schedules, technical risks, and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) reporting.

  • Evaluate changes to Statements of Work (SOW), assess impacts, and negotiate modifications as necessary.

  • Define technical requirements, verification strategies, and acceptance criteria for avionics hardware and software deliverables.

  • Coordinate cross-disciplinary development efforts involving hardware, software, and FPGA teams to ensure seamless integration.

  • Ensure compliance with avionics standards and environmental requirements, including EMC/EMI, thermal, vibration, and DO-160.

  • Lead cross-functional trade studies and technical decision-making processes, proactively escalating issues and mitigating risks.

  • Oversee integration, verification, and validation activities in laboratory and flight-test environments, managing test plans and resources.

  • Serve as a technical and programmatic liaison with customers and suppliers, supporting program reviews and audits.

  • Champion engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • 5+ years of supporting Defense programs

  • 5+ years experience leading projects or programs utilizing Earned Value management and RIO management to drive program performance

  • 5+ years of experience integrating and managing electrical/avionics hardware or subsystems

  • Experience working in design, development, integration, verification, validation, and certification of hardware line replaceable units (LRUs)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field

  • Advanced technical certifications

  • PMP certification

  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and interact with customers.

  • Direct experience with DO-254 and DO-178 processes or working in regulated avionics certification programs.

  • Experience with high-reliability components, obsolescence management, and procurement for aerospace programs.

  • Experience managing subcontractors and supplier technical performance.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Pay Range for Senior Level (Level 5): $164,900– $223,100
