Job Description

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Airports and Specialised Pavements team. The position is ideally suited to candidates experienced with Asphalt, Surfacing & Paving or Civil Construction with a focus on Airports and Racetracks. This role will require national travel and will be responsible for the delivery of various projects. The successful candidate can be based out of Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, coordinate and oversee engineering and construction activities to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
• Interpret designs, provide technical guidance, prepare scopes, estimates and reports, and drive continuous improvement across engineering and construction methods.
• Lead, coach and develop project engineering teams while maintaining effective communication, accountability and performance management.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and regulatory bodies to support successful project outcomes.
• Manage quality assurance processes including ITPs, QA/QC documentation, NCR and RFI close‑out, and ensure all work complies with Downer’s IMS and contractual obligations.
• Monitor construction progress, subcontractor performance, budgets and risks, implementing corrective actions where required to support operational and financial performance.
• Champion Zero Harm by driving safety leadership, ensuring compliance with all OH&S, environmental and rail safety requirements, and actively supporting risk management and incident response.

ABOUT YOU

• Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, along with 7+ years of exposure in airports, racetrack, civil road construction or road maintenance.
• A successful track record of proactively building relationships with key clients, stakeholders and developing new business opportunities.
• Strong negotiation & problem-solving skills.
• A well-developed understanding of planning, execution and financial reporting of projects.
• Strong planning, time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel nationally when required.
• Commitment to quality outcomes with a focus on delivering in full and on time.
• Strong safety focus - actively participate in and support Downer Zero Harm initiatives and strategies.
