The Office of the City Auditor is seeking motivated individuals dedicated to improving government and services to San José residents.

The City of San José Office of the City Auditor is hiring for multiple Performance Auditors. We are recruiting for a Senior Program Performance Auditor or Program Performance Auditor I/II positions to lead or support City Council assigned performance audits of City operations

  • Senior Program Performance Auditors typically lead and coordinate all aspects of audits, including identifying areas of inquiry, developing audit programs, overseeing data collection and analysis, preparing audit findings and reports, and directing the work of other auditors to achieve audit objectives.
  • Program Performance Auditor I/IIs typically serve as audit team members. They analyze complex operations, financial and organizational issues, evaluate alternatives, develop fact-based findings and recommendations to improve City services.

Audit subjects vary widely and may include public safety, parks and libraries, community and economic development, and other City programs.

It is required for candidates to attach a cover letter and resume to their application.

Qualifications

Program Performance Auditor I

Bachelor’s Degree. The Program Performance Auditor I position is an entry level position.

Program Performance Auditor II

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of relevant experience in performance auditing.

Senior Program Performance Auditor

Bachelor’s Degree. A Master’s Degree or professional certification is preferred. Senior Program Performance Auditors generally, require five (5) years of performance auditing experience.

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, writing, creative problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Salaries and Benefits

Annual salary and placement commensurate with experience:

Senior Program Performance Auditor: $135,902 to $178,973

Program Performance Auditor II: $110,745 to $145,887

Program Performance Auditor I: $93,386 to $123,014

We offer comprehensive health, benefit, and retirement packages, and generous leave offerings including four weeks of paid annual leave, additional paid sick leave, and 15 paid City holidays. This position is part of the City’s unclassified management unit which provides $2,000 annually for professional development.
