The School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University is seeking to fill the Wilson E. Schmidt Distinguished Professorship at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs (Kissinger Center). The professorship was established to support a senior faculty member located in SAIS Europe in Bologna, Italy, working in collaboration with other members of the Kissinger Center to pursue its mission of historically informed statecraft and strategy. Candidates with an interest in global affairs, international relations, diplomatic and military history, grand strategy, and efforts to bridge the gap between the worlds of scholarship and policy are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching focus on issues surrounding emerging technology. A record of exemplary scholarship, teaching, and public engagement required. Experience in government, international or non-governmental organizations, and/or the private sector is also viewed favorably.

Established in 1955 as an integral part of the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, SAIS Europe in Bologna, Italy has been educating global leaders in the area of international affairs for over 70 years. Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline; a record of peer-reviewed scholarship sufficient for a tenured appointment at a major research university; demonstrated excellence in graduate teaching; demonstrated capacity to bridge scholarship and practice; a commitment to mentoring a diverse community of students and standing in the field commensurate with senior rank.

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those candidates who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
