Job Description

Senior Product Designer - Premium Spending
Sydney Based | Permanent | Full Time | 50% Office Attendance

Do work that matters
At CommBank, we’re focused on creating experiences that go beyond banking and deliver meaningful value in our customers’ everyday lives. Join our Cards Premium Spending team as a Senior Product Designer and help shape premium propositions that redefine what it means to be a card customer at CommBank.
You’ll lead the design of experiences that connect customers to exclusive travel, dining, entertainment and lifestyle benefits, creating seamless and engaging moments that feel integrated into the way they live and spend. Working at the intersection of financial services and premium lifestyle experiences, you’ll help bring innovative propositions to life through partnerships with leading third-party providers and brands.
This role offers the opportunity to design customer experiences at scale that elevate our premium offering and strengthen how customers connect with CommBank beyond traditional banking.

See yourself in our team
You are someone who thrives working end-to-end, from discovery and research through to service design, UX/UI design and delivery, and will join a collaborative, customer-focused product team.
You’ll partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Business SMEs and external partners in an agile environment to deeply understand customer needs and translate insights into elegant, scalable experiences that deliver both customer and business value.
You’ll be comfortable navigating complexity across internal and third-party ecosystems, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on design execution to create seamless cross-channel experiences. You’ll also play a key role in shaping the future of premium customer experiences across Cards and influencing the broader product and design direction.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead discovery work to uncover customer problems, identify opportunities, and inform product strategy through research, workshops, and co-design.

  • Translate insights into concepts, user flows, scrappy prototypes through explorations and ideation to test hypotheses and validate assumptions that bring stakeholders and leadership confidence in recommended solutions

  • Create engaging wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UX/UI designs, that maintain consistency with our design system, ensuring solutions are desirable for customers and feasible for engineering to achieve key business metrics

  • Apply systems thinking and design thinking techniques to shape an offering that must anticipate the needs of customers in a digital/physical service environment, and the staff that serve them.

  • Collaborate closely with a diverse range of stakeholders inc. Product Managers, Engineers, Content designers, Accessibility managers, and Legal/Risk throughout the agile lifecycle

  • Champion customer-centricity and advocate for best-in-class user experience at every stage of the product discovery and development process, ensuring products/services are usable by all customers through accessibility/inclusivity

  • Contribute to product strategy and roadmap discussions by grounding decisions in customer insights, design thinking, user behaviour data and a “test and learn” mindset

  • Facilitate and participate in design critiques, workshops, and agile ceremonies, providing and receiving actionable feedback according to our design standards to continuously improve outcomes.

  • Contribute to evolving our design system for consistency, scalability, and efficiency.

  • Measure and validate impact post-launch, using a mix of qualitative and quantitative insights to iterate and improve solutions.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience designing digital/staff products end-to-end in cross-functional product teams.

  • Proven ability to lead discovery and delivery activities with customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.

  • Deep understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply and execute them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment.

  • Excellent interaction and UI design skills, with an eye for detail and craft.

  • Experience designing for complex systems, services, or platforms, not just isolated features.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills — you’re as comfortable sketching ideas on a whiteboard with engineers as you are presenting strategic concepts to executives.

  • Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and a basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, components, design tokens).

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity, balancing customer needs with business goals.

  • Experience with metrics-driven product development (e.g., running experiments, A/B testing, usage funnels data).

  • A portfolio that showcases end-to-end product design thinking, craft, and measurable impact.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing within Financial Services or other regulated environments, with an understanding of lending, credit, or complex application journeys.

  • Exposure to designing AI powered or conversational experiences, including chat based interfaces and adaptive flows.

  • Exposure to design systems management and contribution.

  • Passion for mentoring others and uplifting the broader design craft in the organisation.

Why Join Us

  • You’ll work on products that genuinely impact people’s lives.

  • You’ll be part of a highly collaborative, customer-first culture.

  • You’ll have ownership and autonomy to shape the product as a key member of a cross-functional team.

We invest in your growth and career development through coaching, learning budgets, and design community support.
