Job Description

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

As a Senior or Staff Product Designer on the Factory Systems team, you will play a critical role in certifying the world’s first eVTOL aircraft and helping launch the first Urban Air Mobility service. You’ll design the tools used daily by the people building, inspecting, maintaining, and supporting our aircraft — making their work faster, safer, more intuitive, and more traceable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product discovery, design, and delivery from problem framing through implementation, including research, workflow mapping, prototyping, usability testing, visual design, and final design specifications or working prototypes
  • Translate complex manufacturing, quality, supply chain, engineering, HR, and certification workflows into simple, reliable, and scalable internal software
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, data teams, and operational stakeholders to define strategy, clarify requirements, prioritize scope, evaluate tradeoffs, and deliver iterative outcomes
  • Write and refine product artifacts such as PRDs, user stories, workflows, acceptance criteria, launch plans, decision records, and stakeholder-ready documentation
  • Communicate product direction, design rationale, tradeoffs, risks, and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

Required

  • BA/BS in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Product Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating complex systems, enterprise tools, technical workflows, or operational software. AI experience is a plus
  • Strong skills in interaction design, systems thinking, information architecture, visual design, prototyping, and product judgment
  • Experience contributing to product management activities such as discovery, requirements writing, prioritization, roadmap planning, stakeholder alignment, or delivery support
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain product and design decisions to engineering, operations, business stakeholders, and leadership
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with complex technical and operational constraints

Desired

  • Experience designing or managing enterprise systems such as MES, ERP, PLM, QMS, MRP, HRMS, inventory, procurement, quality, manufacturing, maintenance, or configuration management tools
  • Background in aviation, aerospace, manufacturing, automotive, medical devices, robotics, defense, or another regulated or safety-critical industry
  • Experience designing AI-enabled workflows, copilots, conversational interfaces, intelligent search, recommendation systems, or decision-support tools
