About Motorway

Motorway is the UK’s fastest-growing used car marketplace – our award winning, online-only platform connects private car sellers with over 7,500 verified dealers nationwide, who compete to offer the best price. Founded in 2017, our technology makes the process refreshingly easy, earning us an 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating with over 70,000 reviews. We're not just building a platform; we're changing how people sell cars.

Backed by leading investors like Index Ventures and ICONIQ Growth, and following a successful $190 million funding round, we're on a mission to transform the used car market.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to tackle complex user problems and shape design across large, sometimes ambiguous, product areas within your Squad. You’ll own the end-to-end design process, delivering work that drives meaningful impact for both our users and the business.

You’ll bring clarity to complexity, helping to prioritise the right problems and influence product direction through insights from data and research. Systems-thinking, strong UI/UX instincts, and a focus on scalable, user-friendly solutions will be key, as well as deepening your craft in areas like design systems, mobile and web patterns, and accessibility.

Collaboration is at the heart of this role – you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, align stakeholders around customer needs, give thoughtful feedback, and foster inclusive design discussions. Strong communication skills and commercial awareness will help you deliver exceptional experiences while shaping the future of Motorway’s product.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning design from problem definition to polished UI within your Squad. Lead discovery, user testing, and implementation while navigating complexity independently.

  • Delivering cohesive solutions across web, mobile and native apps), applying and contributing to shared design patterns and components that create a unified user experience.

  • Consistently delivering high-impact design work that moves key business and user metrics, bringing clarity to complex problems.

  • Partnering with product managers, data analysts and other functions to shape roadmaps, connecting user insights to product opportunities and broader business goals.

  • Applying systems-thinking and deep UI/UX expertise to produce consistent, scalable, and user-friendly solutions that align with design standards.

  • Championing a user-centred design approach throughout the product development process. Conduct user research, usability testing and analysis to inform design decisions.

  • Working cross-functionally to align stakeholders around customer needs and design direction. Advocate for the user's perspective in decision-making processes.

  • Providing thoughtful feedback and foster inclusive, team-wide design discussions. Mentor junior designers and contribute actively to team rituals and practices.

  • Deepening your craft in strategic areas (e.g. design systems, accessibility, mobile patterns) that drive Product goals. Share expertise and raise the bar for others.

  • Evaluating and applying AI tools appropriately in the design process, considering both their speed and limitations in quality or nuance.

  • Staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design best practices. Proactively identifying opportunities to improve user experience, usability, and visual consistency across the product.
