We’re on the hunt for a Senior Product Assurance Engineer at our

Harwell/Stevenage/Harwell offices.

MDA Space’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the

most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area

capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK

team provides support to our European-based customers while specializing in the development of

advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space-based communication

technology. As our presence grows overseas, so does our need for new ambitious team players to

help us advance our place in the Universe and beyond.

As a Product Assurance Engineer, you will be responsible for the product assurance activities for

designed and manufactured or procured electronic units and subsystems. You will develop, apply

and maintain quality evaluation and control protocols for products in line with customer

requirements. You will be working closely with the hardware and software project teams,

suppliers and customers. The role may require national and international travels at a short notice.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Product Assurance work packages throughout the project lifecycle and across

multiple projects.

  • Prepare project-specific Product Assurance Plans and verify compliance throughout the

entire supply chain.

  • Lead EEE parts, materials and processes assurance activities including review against

technical requirements, authoring qualification plans, and generation of relevant

documentation.

  • Lead design, manufacturing, assembly, integration and test reviews, providing critical

inputs as required.

  • Chair design reviews and customer/supplier reviews such as EQSR, PDR, SRR, CDR,

MRR, TRB, etc.

  • Participate in customer and supplier design and development reviews.
  • Prepare End Item Data Pack (EIDP) and PA documentation such as QSL, CIL and CIDL.
  • Lead non-conformances/critical items/change control processes including NRBs, FRB,

and CCBs.

  • Review of processes, drawings, procedures, test data, and inspection records to

specifications.

  • Support in-house Quality Management System activities and initiatives including internal

audits, lessons learned process, and continuous improvement.

  • Act as a focal point for all quality and product assurance activities of customers, suppliers

and subcontractors.

  • Promote a quality culture and best practices across throughout the organisation.
  • Mentor junior QA and PA Engineers
  • Assist the Business Development team in preparing proposals.

Suitable candidates will ideally have the following attributes:

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the delivery of Product Assurance work packages on

ESA/NASA and Commercial programs.

  • Proven experience in electronic, electromechanical and optical systems design,

manufacture, assembly and test.

  • Experience in the following disciplines: EEE Parts, Materials and Processes, Radiation

Hardness Assurance, RAMS.

  • Full project lifecycle experience in ESA/NASA missions from mission definition to

disposal.

  • Experience writing technical documents.
  • Proven experience of working with European Space Agency standards particularly

ECSS-Q-ST-10, ECSS-Q-ST-60 and ECSS-Q-ST-70 family of standards.

  • Experience with quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS 9100 and their

implementation.

  • Proven experience with root cause analysis and problem solving techniques and tools.

Desirable

  • Experience in supplier quality management.
  • Experience of working with industry standards such as NASA, IPC, JEDEC, and MIL

STD.

  • Knowledge in any of the following would be advantageous:

o Satellite systems and payloads

o Robotics and optical subsystems

o Ground support equipment

o Electronic units (digital communications hardware, PCB, Integrated circuits, etc)

o Manufacturing processes e.g. soldering, coating, bonding, plating, etc.

o Harness design and fabrication methods
