Celanese is looking for a Senior Process Safety Engineer in Bishop, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Senior Process Safety Engineer needed by Celanese Corporation in Bishop, TX to Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems in alignment with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, EPA Risk Management Program (RMP), NFPA, and global industry best practices including CCPS guidelines.
  • Design and manage proactive strategies for identifying and mitigating process risks across complex chemical manufacturing operations, including high-hazard processes and legacy systems.
  • Develop and monitor leading and lagging process safety metrics. Apply advanced risk assessment methodologies such as Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Bowtie, Fault Tree, Event Tree, and Consequence Modeling using PHAST, ALOHA, and FLACS.
  • Facilitate and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) using HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, and scenario-based assessments. Oversee the full lifecycle of the Management of Change (MOC) process, from initial technical review to compliance verification and engineering documentation control.
  • Provide technical oversight and establish Safe Operating Limits (SOLs), evaluate deviation scenarios, and define required safeguards.
  • Deliver technical training on topics such as combustible dust, pressure relief systems, inherent safety, and chemical reactivity hazards.
  • Serve as technical advisor during pre-startup safety reviews, audits, and major turnaround planning. Conduct incident investigations for high-risk or high-potential events using Root Cause Analysis (RCA), TapRooT, and Cause Mapping.
  • Define and implement corrective and preventive actions in coordination with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams.
  • Support capital project execution by reviewing PSM integration in Front-End Loading (FEL) stages and ensuring compliance with pressure relief systems (API 520/521), isolation valves, and suppression systems.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, corporate process safety teams, and external organizations such as AIChE, CCPS, and NFPA to align with emerging standards and incorporate innovative technologies.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies during audits or inspections, demonstrating compliance and continuous improvement of process safety elements.
  • Conduct process safety engineering, risk management, and chemical process operations in an industrial manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
  • Follow OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP, and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) regulations. Utilizing PHA methodologies, including HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, and FMEA.
  • Conduct consequence modeling using PHAST, ALOHA, and FLACS.
  • Perform relief system design and pressure relief analysis per API 520/521.
  • Working with process control systems, emergency shutdown systems (ESD), and safety instrumented systems (SIS) per IEC 61511.
  • Utilize quantitative risk assessments, dispersion modeling, and fire/explosion modeling.
  • Use Chemical reactivity analysis and thermal runaway prevention. Interact with cross-functional teams, regulatory agencies, and senior leadership.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a high-risk operational environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in in Chemical Engineering, Process Safety Engineering, or Industrial Engineering and five (5) years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in the job offered or five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation conducting process safety engineering, risk management, and chemical process operations in an industrial manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
  • Following OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP, and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) regulations; utilizing PHA methodologies, including HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, and FMEA.
  • Conducting consequence modeling using PHAST, ALOHA, and FLACS.
