Purpose of Job

The Senior Process Engineer will play a critical role in designing, optimizing, and supporting upstream and midstream oil and gas operations at Sasol – Mozambique operations. This position requires deep technical expertise in process engineering, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, review, and optimize process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs);
  • Conduct feasibility studies and simulation modeling for upstream production facilities and midstream transportation systems;
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance reliability across oil and gas operations;
  • Provide technical guidance to operations teams on troubleshooting process issues in production, separation, compression, and pipeline systems;
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety requirements;
  • Support commissioning, start-up, and performance testing of new facilities;
  • Develop/ reviews production dashboard, ensure critical parameters are incorporated, trains operations teams, follow-up the implementation/ operations, detect deviation, produce corrective, preventative, predictive actions and implement them;
  • Design/ leads the team to find the best equipment combination for the desired production (nomination);
  • Performs the entire plant mass / energy balance detect deviations, activate mechanisms to correct deviations and report;
  • Lead process engineering input for capital projects, including conceptual design, FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), and detailed engineering;
  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to deliver integrated solutions;
  • Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, and design basis documents;
  • Perform hazard identification (HAZID), hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), and risk assessments;
  • Ensure process safety management (PSM) principles are embedded in design and operations;
  • Develop mitigation strategies for operational risks, including flare systems, relief devices, and emergency shutdown procedures;
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical training to operations staff;
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for process engineering in upstream and midstream domains at Sasol operations;
  • Represent the company in technical discussions with regulators, partners, and contractors.

Formal Education

University Bachelors Degree in Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering

Working Experience

Experience: 8+ relevant years
