Role Purpose

Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost. Understands Corning's Intellectual property management processes and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a project

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise, to ensure timely resolution of short-term process and equipment issues, and higher level troubleshooting
  • Provides direction to other technicians / engineers, coaches junior engineers, and provides guidance to maintenance personnel
  • Provides general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals), and capable of leading projects to get to root cause of issues, and put permanent solutions in place
  • Provides disciplined project leadership across multiple stages of innovation for new product, process, cost reduction and capacity improvement initiatives
  • Recommends and implements permanent solutions to long term performance issues, and improves existing and new technologies and processes
  • Develops and leads some areas of the manufacturing and/or technical roadmap. Documents material, process and/or equipment to protect and contribute to Intellectual Property improvements
  • Proficient in use of statistical data analysis and DOE in process problem solving and process/product improvement
  • Identifies, justifies, and implements cost reduction, capacity enhancement, capital equipment and other improvement initiatives
  • Introduces new products and technologies
  • Tracks the effectiveness of projects and implemented cost reductions, using up-time, cost, productivity, and other appropriate measures
  • Other tasks supervisor assigned
  • Ensure compliance to company EHS requirements within plant IT (Include: Policy, Procedure, SOP and other requirements)

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in technical field
  • Project leadership (scope to implementation)
  • Above 10 years’ relevant working experience in optical communications industry and familiar with FAU(Fiber Array Unit).
  • Be familiar with GR-326, GR-1435, GR-1209, GR1221 reliability test standard

Required Skills. Competencies, or Certification

  • Good commanding on FAU design
  • Effective, high quality oral and written communication skills with English
  • Proactive, independent, flexible, quick learner
  • Excellent computer skills (working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office)
  • Customer oriented; meets customer needs with quality results

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities tasks
