Job Description

ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology

Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips

Working for tomorrow today.

Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.

In this key role, you are responsible for the overarching test strategy for electronic assemblies and mechatronic systems along the entire value chain. You significantly shape how highly complex products at ZEISS are industrialized, tested and manufactured with assured quality – from early development through to full‑scale series production.

As a senior process architect in R&D, you drive the continuous development of test methods, standards and architectures and act as a technical counterpart for engineering, manufacturing and our supplier network. In this position, you will help define how our high‑end production technologies, test architectures and processes of the future will look: working in a leading technology company, you will have strong influence on architectures, processes and the technology roadmap, collaborating closely with top‑level, cross‑functional teams.

Your Role

  • Define and continuously improve company‑wide test strategies for electronic and mechatronic assemblies and systems
  • Derive scalable test architectures (inline testing / end‑of‑line testing / system testing)
  • Assess new technologies and trends in electronic testing and functional system integration
  • Define requirements for electronic qualification processes and test benches, in particular for the systematic integration and commissioning of electronic components in complex systems, and ensure implementation and process stability
  • Develop integration, commissioning and qualification processes for electronic and mechatronic modules as well as opto‑mechatronic systems
  • Further develop Design‑for‑Test (DfT) guidelines
  • Co‑design production lines and test concepts for complex systems
  • Ensure robust and reproducible processes in series production
  • Establish end‑to‑end quality and traceability concepts
  • Introduce and advance best practices, standards and methodologies in the test environment
  • Contribute actively to positioning ZEISS as a high‑tech manufacturer in the semiconductor industry

Your Profile

  • University degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics or a comparable field; a PhD is a plus
  • Several years of experience in test engineering, system integration or industrialization
  • Strong understanding of relevant test methods in electronics manufacturing and functional testing
  • Solid experience in developing system‑level test strategies, classifying failures in electro‑mechanical systems and integrating tests into automated production systems
  • Confident handling of complex system interdependencies (electrical, mechanical, optical)
  • Strong communication skills and confident stakeholder management
  • High curiosity and openness to new ideas, with a strong interest in technological trends
  • Strategic, systems‑level thinking and the ability to structure and master complexity
  • Technical leadership: ability to provide strong technical guidance and influence without formal line management responsibility
  • High level of ownership, drive to shape solutions and proactive way of working
  • Resilience and confident handling of pressure and conflict situations
  • Strong team orientation and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration across different functions
  • Structured, analytical working style with pronounced quality and process awareness
  • Very good German and English skills, both spoken and written
