Genesys is seeking a Senior Privacy Commercial Counsel to support complex global commercial transactions and strategic privacy initiatives across our international cloud business. This role will serve as a senior legal advisor on customer-facing privacy negotiations, AI governance considerations, and data protection strategy in highly regulated and enterprise environments. You will partner closely with Commercial Legal, Security, Product, Sales, Deal Desk, and Engineering to deliver pragmatic, risk-based solutions that support business growth while maintaining strong compliance and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Privacy Contracting and Strategic Transactions

  • Lead complex drafting, review, and negotiation of Data Processing Agreements, privacy terms, and AI-related contractual provisions within enterprise cloud and SaaS agreements
  • Advise on international data transfer mechanisms, including Standard Contractual Clauses, transfer addenda, transfer impact assessments, and supplementary safeguards
  • Serve as lead privacy counsel for strategic enterprise transactions involving regulated industry customers and high-risk data processing activities
  • Support customer negotiations involving AI governance, audit rights, security commitments, data localization, and emerging digital regulations
  • Partner closely with Sales, Deal Desk, Security, and Commercial Legal to accelerate deal execution while maintaining an appropriate legal and compliance posture
  • Develop scalable negotiation guidance, fallback language, and contracting playbooks for global privacy and AI terms
  • Lead person for commercially relevant privacy documentation maintenance (e.g. DPA).

Privacy Compliance and AI Governance

  • Advise on GDPR and broader EU digital regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act, Digital Services Act, Data Act, ePrivacy Directive, and NIS2
  • Provide strategic counseling on Privacy by Design and Privacy by Default within cloud and AI-enabled products
  • Support and advise on DPIAs, AI impact assessments, and Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments for complex product and customer deployments
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Security, and AI governance teams to operationalize compliant and ethical AI practices
  • Contribute to regulatory readiness initiatives and support internal governance programs related to privacy, AI, and digital compliance

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Translate complex privacy, AI, and technology requirements into clear, commercially practical guidance for business stakeholders
  • Support executive and senior stakeholder decision-making regarding legal risk, regulatory obligations, and customer commitments
  • Deliver training and enablement sessions for Legal, Commercial, Product, and Engineering teams
  • Promote a strong culture of collaboration, accountability, and ethical decision-making across global teams

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer in an EU Member State with approximately 6 to 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience
  • Extensive experience negotiating complex cloud, SaaS, and technology agreements with significant privacy and security components
  • Deep knowledge of GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and practical experience applying privacy compliance principles in commercial and product environments
  • Strong understanding of international data transfer frameworks and privacy risk mitigation strategies
  • Familiarity with emerging EU digital regulations, including the EU AI Act and related AI governance obligations
  • Ability to engage effectively with technical stakeholders regarding cloud architecture, data flows, security controls, and AI systems
  • Demonstrated success managing complex negotiations and balancing commercial objectives with regulatory obligations
  • Strong business judgment, executive presence, and stakeholder management capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • IAPP certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, or public sector
  • Experience advising on AI governance, AI contracting, or responsible AI frameworks (EU AI Act, ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF)
  • Fluency in French and/or German (in addition to English) is a strong advantage
