Job Description

As a part of the Global Application Management and Support (GAMS) team, this individual will be responsible to manage the development and modernization of EDMS (iDocs) Platform technically. With this role we are looking to strengthen development and support team who will liaise with cross-functional teams, to ensure successful delivery of support services at McDermott. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background and also has a good understanding of business processes related to Document management. This role requires innovative/constructive thinking, in-depth technical expertise, process knowledge, operational experience for a globally spread support team. The Development Lead provides hands-on technical leadership for enterprise web applications built with Angular, Java and Python. The role owns solution design, engineering quality, secure delivery, release readiness and production reliability while coaching developers and partnering with Product, UX, Architecture, Security, DevOps, Data and Support teams. The Lead converts business priorities into scalable, maintainable solutions and ensures the team delivers with clear ownership, disciplined testing and measurable operational outcomes.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end technical delivery from discovery and estimation through design, build, testing, deployment and support.
  • Provide hands-on direction for Angular front ends, Java/Spring Boot services and Python services, integrations or automation.
  • Own architecture decisions for modularity, API contracts, identity, authorization, data access, resilience, performance and observability.
  • Translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical designs, engineering tasks and measurable acceptance criteria.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, peer review, automated testing and secure-development practices.
  • Review designs and code for maintainability, performance, accessibility, testability, security and enterprise alignment.
  • Guide responsive and accessible Angular user experiences with reusable components and consistent design standards.
  • Design and govern REST APIs, microservices, events, messages and integrations with enterprise and third-party platforms.
  • Partner with DevOps and cloud teams on CI/CD, environments, deployment, rollback and operational readiness.
  • Own quality gates across unit, integration, API, UI, regression, performance and security testing.
  • Lead major-incident technical response, advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and permanent corrective action.
  • Improve monitoring through logs, metrics, traces, health checks and clear service-level indicators.
  • Manage technical debt, dependency upgrades, vulnerability remediation and lifecycle risks through a prioritized roadmap.
  • Estimate work, identify risks early and communicate options and trade-offs clearly to leadership.
  • Mentor engineers, delegate decisions, broaden team knowledge and avoid dependency on individual contributors.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 10+ years of enterprise software-development experience, including business-critical web applications.
  • 3+ years as a Development Lead, Technical Lead or comparable engineering leader.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Angular and TypeScript experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Java and Spring Boot experience.
  • 2+ years of practical Python development for APIs, services, integrations, automation or data processing.
  • Demonstrated leadership of approximately five or more engineers through direct or matrix accountability.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, microservices, REST APIs, databases and code-review practices.
  • Proven ownership of architecture decisions, secure delivery, production support and root-cause resolution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years of enterprise software development and 3+ years of technical-leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of Angular experience covering TypeScript, component architecture, routing, forms, responsive design, state management, performance and testing.
  • 5+ years of Java and Spring Boot experience covering REST APIs, dependency injection, persistence, exception handling and service design.
  • 2+ years of Python experience for APIs, services, integration, automation or data-processing use cases.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a team of approximately five or more developers.
  • Strong knowledge of secure API and microservices design, validation, versioning, failure handling and distributed-system fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, data modeling and transaction management.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS or OCI; Git workflows; CI/CD; automated deployment; and environment-based configuration.
  • Experience with unit, integration and end-to-end testing, quality gates, code scanning and security scanning.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot production issues across browser, API, application, database and integration layers.
  • Strong estimation, planning, risk-management, stakeholder and technical-communication skills.
  • Docker and Kubernetes or equivalent managed container platforms.
  • Event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
  • Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django; JPA or Hibernate for Java persistence.
  • OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, enterprise identity providers and role-based access control.
  • Web accessibility, internationalization, caching, content delivery and front-end performance optimization.
  • Application performance monitoring, centralized logging and distributed tracing.
  • DevSecOps, threat modeling, OWASP awareness, software-composition analysis and secrets management.
  • Legacy modernization, monolith decomposition and reduction of unnecessary technology complexity.
  • Remain hands-on enough to review critical code, prototype approaches and lead difficult troubleshooting without becoming the team bottleneck.
  • Create clear ownership across front-end, back-end, integration, testing and operational-readiness work.
  • Select technology based on business fit, supportability, security and total lifecycle cost.
  • Protect quality during schedule pressure through explicit, risk-based trade-offs.
  • Develop successors and broaden knowledge so critical applications are not dependent on one engineer.
  • Give timely, respectful and actionable feedback that improves delivery and capability.
