About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Primary Design & Support Engineer who has been in the primary role for more than 5+years of experience that enjoys working closely with others, sharing knowledge, and helping teams succeed.

In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of zone substation projects while supporting and guiding engineers across the team. You’ll play an important part in building capability, improving processes, and ensuring high-quality, safe, and reliable outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

Collaborating on Design & Delivery

  • Develop and deliver primary design documentation for zone substation projects
  • Prepare drawings and engineering documentation using tools such as AutoCAD and CYMCAP
  • Work closely with project, construction, and operations teams to support project delivery
  • Provide commissioning and technical support across project lifecycles

Supporting & Developing Others

  • Mentor and guide engineers within the design team
  • Share knowledge and support the development of team capability
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive team culture
  • Step into leadership responsibilities when needed to support the broader team

Building Strong Relationships

  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand needs and deliver effective solutions
  • Work with external providers and consultants to coordinate design outcomes
  • Communicate clearly and supportively across technical and non-technical teams

Improving Systems & Ways of Working

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and tools
  • Support planning and coordination of design resources
  • Help ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with standards and requirements

Ensuring Quality & Safety

  • Review and approve designs in line with standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support audit processes
  • Champion safe work practices and a strong quality mindset

About You

You’re a thoughtful and experienced engineer who values teamwork, clear communication, and supporting others to do their best work.

Your experience includes:

  • Experience in primary design within zone substations or similar environments
  • Strong understanding of subtransmission and distribution systems (up to 66kV)
  • Experience delivering design documentation and supporting project outcomes
  • Exposure to mentoring or supporting other engineers

You’ll also bring:

  • Engineering qualification (Electrical or related discipline)
  • RPEV accreditation (or equivalent)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, CYMCAP, and other design tools
  • Strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills
