Summary

Tacoma Power Management is seeking a talented and driven individual to join its Power Resource Modeling team. As a Senior Power Resource Planning Analyst, you will contribute to running and developing our Python-based modeling codebase used for energy planning, risk management, and optimization. Your work will advance Tacoma Power’s ability to provide reliable and affordable energy, manage risks, and optimize power resources.

In a time of rapid change for electric utilities driven by emerging technologies, evolving policies, and shifting market dynamics your insights will help guide the future of energy at Tacoma Power. Your contributions will play a vital role in ensuring Tacoma Power can continue to deliver low-cost, reliable power to its customers well into the future.

Please note: The Resource Planning & Analytics team currently has two positions open. This position is at the senior level, while the other is at the principal level (Principal Power Resource Planning Analyst). You must apply to each position individually to be considered for both.

In this role you will:

  • Perform model runs. Manage model input and output data. Critically review and interpret model results.
  • Develop and maintain modeling code including statistical/ machine learning models, linear optimization models, and heuristic-based models, which are used for simulations and forecasting. Evaluate models and quantify uncertainty.
  • Visualize and present results to decision-makers. Participate in modeling team meetings and group planning sessions. Communicate with team members about progress and challenges.
  • Update and improve the model codebase through GitHub. Troubleshoot, develop, test, and document code.

Examples of duties

Minimum Education*

Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, economics, statistics, mathematics or directly related field

Minimum Experience*

2 years of experience in statistical analysis, forecasting, or financial/operational modeling

*Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

Some positions may require individuals to complete annual training and pass a comprehensive personal risk assessment (background check) prior to employment and every five years thereafter as required by federal regulatory requirements (NERC-CIP)

Qualifications

Desired Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong investigative and exploratory skills
  • Experience with scientific programming (e.g., Python, R, Git etc.)
  • Advanced degree in a technical field such as Operations Research, Power Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Economics.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely

Pay Details:

Annual Salary: $105,643.20 - $148,740.80
