Senior PostgreSQL Specialist / DBA (Hybrid – Brussels)

We are looking for an experienced Senior PostgreSQL Specialist to support a large-scale database modernization and cloud transformation program focused on PostgreSQL on Microsoft Azure.

The role combines hands-on engineering, database architecture, migration leadership, automation, and mentoring within a complex enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Design and implement PostgreSQL architectures on Microsoft Azure
• 
  Manage PostgreSQL environments including HA, networking, security, backup, and disaster recovery
• 
  Lead Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration projects, including schema assessment, PL/SQL refactoring, data conversion, and cutover planning
• 
  Optimize database performance through tuning, partitioning, vacuum strategies, and capacity planning
• 
  Implement monitoring, observability, alerting, patching, and operational support processes
• 
  Ensure compliance with GDPR, NIS2, and enterprise security standards
• 
  Develop Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Bicep and/or Terraform
• 
  Support CI/CD integration for database deployments and changes
• 
  Coach and mentor existing DBA teams transitioning from Oracle and SQL Server environments
• 
  Collaborate with developers, architects, security, and infrastructure teams on database modernization initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

• 
  Minimum 8 years of experience as a DBA, Database Engineer, or Database Architect
• 
  At least 5 years of PostgreSQL experience and 2 years in Azure environments
• 
  Proven experience with:
  • 
    PostgreSQL administration (v14+)
  • 
    Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server
  • 
    Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations
  • 
    Performance tuning (pg_stat_statements, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, autovacuum)
  • 
    High availability and disaster recovery strategies
  • 
    PgBouncer and connection pooling
  • 
    Backup and recovery solutions (pgBackRest, Barman, Azure-native backup)
  • 
    Linux administration and shell scripting (Bash/Python)
  • 
    Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep)
  • 
    Security and compliance (pgAudit, RBAC, encryption, GDPR/NIS2)
• 
  Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) is a plus
• 
  PostgreSQL or Azure certifications are considered an advantage

  Dutch or French: Native or equivalent level

  Second national language: Functional knowledge

  English: Fluent
