Purpose of Position
The Senior Portfolio Marketing Manager is responsible for defining and executing the portfolio strategy for the wound care business in China. The role shapes a coherent, differentiated and commercially competitive portfolio across premium, core and value segments, spanning in-hospital and out-of-hospital channels.
A central mandate is to continuously evolve the portfolio by integrating new products and product lines from internal development, global or regional portfolios, local innovation, strategic partnerships, licensing, sourcing, acquisitions and other business development activities. The role ensures that additions are assessed, positioned, governed and embedded through consistent portfolio, launch, lifecycle and performance-management processes.
The role holder translates market, customer, clinical and competitive insights into clear portfolio choices that maximize market coverage, sustainable growth and profitability, while maintaining appropriate differentiation between products, brands, price tiers, customer segments and channels.
What you'll do
1. Portfolio Architecture, Integration & Optimization
• Own the portfolio architecture across premium, core, value and relevant adjacent offerings, with clear product roles, target segments, channel fit and positioning principles.
• Lead the repeatable integration of products and product lines introduced through internal development, global or regional transfer, local innovation, partnerships, licensing, sourcing, acquisitions or other business development routes.
• Assess strategic fit, clinical and customer relevance, regulatory and quality readiness, commercial potential, supply feasibility, margin profile, brand fit and cannibalization risk before portfolio inclusion.
• Identify overlaps, gaps and synergies; recommend rationalization, rebranding, migration, localization, phase-in, phase-out or discontinuation plans.
• Build and maintain a multi-year portfolio roadmap that balances near-term revenue delivery with long-term strategic ambition and capability building.
• Partner with Business Development, Sales, Clinical Engagement, R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance and Global Business Unit Marketing on organic and inorganic portfolio planning.
2. Segmented Portfolio Strategy
• Develop differentiated portfolio strategies by city tier, care setting, customer type, clinical need, price segment and route-to-market.
• Translate segmentation insights into clear targeting, product positioning, pricing corridors, claims, channel roles and promotional guidance.
• Ensure appropriate differentiation and guardrails across hospital, lower-tier, tender, retail, pharmacy, e-commerce and other out-of-hospital channels.
• Develop and integrate volume-based procurement (VBP), tender and bidding strategies into the overall portfolio plan.
3. Market, Customer & Competitive Intelligence
• Continuously monitor market dynamics, clinical practice, customer and patient needs, procurement and reimbursement developments, channel evolution and competitor activity across multinational and domestic players.
• Use market research, field engagement and stakeholder interviews to identify unmet needs and translate insights into portfolio opportunities and priorities.
• Conduct regular portfolio performance reviews covering volume, revenue, price, margin, market share, channel mix, forecast accuracy and lifecycle status; recommend corrective actions.
4. Portfolio Governance & Cross-functional Leadership
• Establish and operate clear portfolio governance, decision forums, stage gates, roles, documentation and decision criteria from opportunity assessment through launch, scale-up, optimization and exit.
• Lead cross-functional portfolio workstreams and align Sales, Clinical Engagement, Regulatory, Quality, Supply Chain, R&D, Global Business Unit Marketing, Finance, Business Development and other stakeholders.
• Ensure portfolio decisions are translated into executable plans with clear owners, milestones, dependencies, risks and success measures.
• Prepare portfolio reviews, investment proposals and strategic recommendations for management decision-making.
5. New Product Introduction, Launch & Lifecycle Management
• Guide product owners and cross-functional teams in go-to-market planning for new, transferred, localized or migrated products, including positioning, pricing, forecasting, claims, readiness, training, supply and launch tracking.
• Define launch sequencing and readiness criteria, and monitor post-launch performance against the approved business case and success measures.
• Manage the full product lifecycle from introduction and growth through maturity, optimization, migration and exit.
• Capture launch and integration learnings and embed them into standard portfolio processes and future playbooks.
6. Financial & Commercial Ownership
• Build robust business cases for portfolio investments, new products, migrations, localization, partnerships and rationalization decisions.
• Assess revenue potential, pricing, gross margin, investment needs, working capital and key commercial risks in partnership with Finance and Commercial teams.
• Recommend resource and investment priorities based on strategic fit, customer value, financial return, feasibility and execution capacity.
• Define and track portfolio KPIs, ensuring timely escalation and recovery plans where performance is off track.
