1. Primary Purpose of Job
The Senior Portfolio Analyst will support the Project Management team by designing, developing, and maintaining advanced Power BI reporting solutions and data analytics capabilities. Operating at a senior level, this role leads the delivery of high-quality dashboards and insights across projects, programmes, and portfolios, while also supporting and guiding junior analysts within the team.
The role requires a strong Power BI background combined with a solid understanding of project and programme management data – including cost, schedule, utilisation, and risk – enabling the analyst to work confidently with project controls data and translate it into meaningful, decision-ready reporting for Project Managers and leadership.
Power BI Reporting & Analytics
• Design, develop, and maintain advanced Power BI dashboards and reports providing real-time visibility into project performance, cost, schedule, utilisation, and portfolio-level KPIs.
• Translate project and programme data into actionable insights for Project Managers and leadership, ensuring reports are intuitive, accurate, and aligned to stakeholder needs.
• Replace manual, Excel-heavy reporting with standardised, automated Power BI dashboards, driving consistency and reducing reporting effort across the team.
• Establish and maintain best practices for Power BI data modelling, report design, and governance, ensuring solutions are scalable and maintainable across multiple projects.
• Support and guide junior analysts in Power BI development, providing peer review and sharing knowledge to raise overall team capability.
Power Platform Development & Automation
• Design and develop Power Apps (Canvas and Model-Driven) to support project management use cases such as registers, logs, approvals, and trackers.
• Build and maintain Power Automate flows to automate routine reporting, notifications, and approval processes across the project delivery team.
• Manage integrations between SharePoint, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Dataverse to ensure seamless data flow across tools.
Project Controls & Domain Enablement
• Work closely with Project Controls Specialists and Project Managers to understand project data structures – cost, schedule, earned value, and risk – and ensure Power BI solutions accurately reflect this data.
• Apply working knowledge of project controls concepts (cost reporting, schedule monitoring, utilisation tracking, and KPIs) to validate data, identify anomalies, and ensure reporting integrity.
• Support governance, data quality, and version control for Power BI and Power Platform solutions used across multiple projects and regions.
• Maintain documentation, user guides, and support materials for developed dashboards and applications.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
• Identify opportunities to optimise project reporting workflows using Power BI and low-code/no-code solutions.
• Stay current with Microsoft Power Platform features, security, and best practices, ensuring solutions align with enterprise standards.
• Support adoption and training of end users (Project Managers, analysts, coordinators) on developed dashboards and tools.
• Contribute to regional reporting improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities within the project delivery team.
