The Community You Will Join

HuffPost is looking for an energetic, scoop-hungry reporter to cover American politics, including the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential race. An ideal candidate has a proven track record of breaking news and building sources on a competitive beat, while also writing breaking news stories on deadline and informative features. They should be focused on getting inside the minds of decision-makers and have an eye for both the deadly serious and the hilariously weird elements of politics. There is a strong preference for candidates based in Washington, D.C., though extraordinary applicants based elsewhere will be considered.

A Typical Day

  • Break news, whether it be on the Hill, in the White House, or on the campaign trail.
  • Write deeply reported stories on the topics driving political discussion.
  • Be willing to appear on TV, radio, podcasts, and social media to promote your work.
  • Be willing to travel extensively to cover elections.
  • Collaborate extensively with both the politics team and other teams in the newsroom.

Part of what makes BuzzFeed a pioneer in digital media is our commitment to exploring new ventures that help spread truth and joy. As such, you may be asked to share your knowledge with your colleagues through presentations or training, to screen and interview job candidates, or to take part in recruitment or networking events on behalf of the company, and be part of a union.

Who You Are

  • At least 5 years of political reporting experience, with a proven track record of getting scoops
  • Extensive sourcing in national politics
  • The demonstrated ability to write cleanly on deadline
  • Strong news judgment, intellectual curiosity and extensive knowledge of politics and campaigns

Use of artificial intelligence or an LLM such as ChatGPT during the interview process maybe grounds for rejection of your application.
