Core Responsibilities:
Role Purpose:
To assist in expanding the Political Violence & Terrorism account in line with syndicate and company plans whilst maintaining a focus on bottom line underwriting for profit and delivery of both Syndicate and Everest internal plans.
To have a key focus on new business production and opportunities in line with agreed business plan
To maintain an in depth understanding of the live portfolio exposures and exposure management in place.
To assist in expanding the current product range to allow Everest to compete with the market leaders in the sector.
To underwrite new and renewal business (and contract endorsements) in line with business plan providing high levels of service and consistency to our brokers and clients.
To assist in the preparation of the business plan, statistics and documentation as required.
To monitor and keep abreast of changes in underwriting, regulation and compliance.
To represent Everest at meetings in the Everest office and during visits to brokers, producers, coverholders and other customers as required.
To refer risks as appropriate that exceed prescribed underwriting authority.
To assist in developing and executing a marketing plan with the Underwriting team, whilst maintaining and expanding existing broker relationships, and developing new relationships where this is consistent with the objectives set out in the Business Plan.
To liaise with the Claims Manager on claims related issues and participate in account and portfolio reviews.
To contribute to the regular analysis and review of underwriting practices and procedures.
Key Accountabilities
To participate in the underwriting peer review process as required.
To assist in the improvement of rating models, underwriting manuals, service standards, marketing materials, website and risk management and claims functions as required.
To assist with the completion and review of strategic underwriting guidelines & pricing models.
In conjunction with the Head of Political Violence & Terrorism, formulate and execute underwriting strategy in the London marketplace.
Be responsible for Distribution, Business and Product Development/Expansion within these areas.
Development of growth strategy for areas of responsibility and co-ordination of underwriting between other Everest offices and with London as needed.
Underwrite in compliance with Lloyd’s and Everest prescribed underwriting standards.
Business travel as required to support the above objectives, and the appropriate management of T&E expenses.
To help develop and train junior staff as may be appropriate
To build and maintain positive external and internal relationships with key stakeholders.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Advanced technical knowledge of Political Violence & Terrorism from an Underwriting or Broking background
Strategic skills – show an ability to determine opportunities and threats through comprehensive analysis of current and future trends that may impact our business.
Judgment / decision making skills – show ability to use logic rationality and objectivity in decision making.
Risk taking – show the ability to develop a sound underwriting view to take calculated risks with favourable outcomes.
Compliance – ability to understand and ensure compliance with all internal and external management and regulatory controls, with appropriate support.
Market and product knowledge – ability to maintain and develop market knowledge including competitor profiles and products.
Relationship building – developing ability to establish and maintain sound relationships both internally and externally.
