The Senior Policy Analyst position is within the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office (ADMO) of the Public Security Division of Public Safety and Emergency Services.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Executive Operations in the Assistant Deputy Minister/Chief Operating Officer’s Office, this role provides support for complex law enforcement and public safety policy initiatives across the division and ministry. As a key member of the ADMO, the position leads projects, supports executive decision making, and builds effective partnerships in a highly political and technical environment.

Key duties include:

• Support the design, delivery, and evaluation of major public safety and law enforcement policy initiatives and cross government projects.
• Conduct advanced policy research and analysis; develop and assess policy options and system level solutions.
• Prepare and review briefing notes, reports, and recommendations for executive management and the Minister.
• Facilitate committee, cross ministry, and stakeholder meetings.
• Develop project charters, work plans, timelines, and resource allocations.
• Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to policy analysts across the department.

Working closely with the Director and ADMO Issues Manager, this role independently identifies and addresses emerging issues, delivering authoritative, evidence based advice to advance divisional, departmental, and government objectives. The position requires a highly self directed, innovative professional who can manage a high volume of complex work, operate with minimal supervision, and proactively drive solutions in a fast paced environment. As a highly influential subject matter expert in law enforcement policy, the role carries significant accountability and impact across the division, department, and the Minister’s Office.

Qualifications

A university degree in Criminology, Law, Public Policy, Political Science, or any other related field plus four (4) years of related experience.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Assets include:

• Advanced understanding of the workings of government, including political, administrative, service delivery, and financial environments.
• Knowledge of government roles, structures, policies, and procedures, particularly policy development, regulatory reform, legislation, planning, and accountability.
• Excellent conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to summarize and synthesize complex materials.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with a mix of stakeholders and staff.
• Ability to multi-task with vague direction while working in an uncertain environment is necessary.

There is one full time permanent position available, working Monday-Friday from 8:15am-4:30pm, fully in-person.
