Job Description

The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) promotes the safety of all people that build, work, and live in New York City by regulating the lawful use of over one million buildings and construction sites across the five boroughs. With a focus on safety, service, and integrity, the Department enforces the City’s Construction Codes, Zoning Resolution, and the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law.

Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs and Policy Development, the Senior Policy Advisor will help develop and implement policy priorities for the agency.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Work closely with the Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Legal Affairs, and personnel throughout the agency to support the Department’s legislative and policy priorities
- Conduct research to inform the Department’s position on proposed federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies
- Assist in developing policy strategies and positions related to Citywide and agency initiatives concerning various stakeholder groups, including small businesses, small property owners, and tenants
- Assist in the development of the Department’s annual legislative agenda
- Assist in the preparation of City Council testimony and related materials
- Lead and track implementation efforts regarding policy initiatives
- Coordinate across the agency, including with External Affairs, on policy-related matters, agency initiatives, and strategic plans and goals
- Develop and give policy-related presentations
- Participate in cross-divisional policy workgroups and initiatives
