Job Description

With over 25 years’ experience, plus the same enormous passion and ambition we had on day-one, we’re trailblazers in the pet e-commerce industry. Our solutions make over 12 million customers genuinely happier – and that’s something we really care about. We work together to continually adapt; embracing change and the challenges it brings so that we can keep doing better. Join us and discover a place where your potential meets your passion for pets. That’s the power of plus.

Are you passionate about building reliable, scalable platforms that empower engineering teams to deliver high-quality software? Do you enjoy working with cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes and observability solutions to solve complex technical challenges?

Join our Platform Engineering & Technology Services (PETS) team and help build the platforms that power our 24/7 e-commerce business. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll primarily focus on our Observability Platform, enabling engineering teams to monitor, troubleshoot and optimize production systems, while collaborating closely with our Container Orchestration Platform team on shared platform initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Own and continuously evolve our Observability Platform, including logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring and alerting.
  • Enhance and operate our observability stack using technologies such as Elastic Stack, Prometheus and Thanos.
  • Design and implement scalable solutions for Application Performance Monitoring (APM), distributed tracing and AIOps-driven automation.
  • Collaborate with the Container Orchestration Platform team to collect and manage telemetry from workloads running on AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Automate infrastructure and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code and modern DevOps practices.
  • Build and improve platform services using open-source technologies and custom tooling where appropriate.
  • Support engineering teams in adopting and using observability services effectively.
  • Contribute to the reliability, scalability and availability of our platform, including participation in an occasional on-call rotation.
  • Partner with our Principal Engineer to help shape platform architecture and technical direction.

Qualifications

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Systems Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps Engineering, or a similar role.
  • A degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical qualification.
  • Strong experience with several of the following:
    • Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana)
    • Prometheus, Thanos or other time-series monitoring platforms
    • Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and distributed tracing (e.g. Elastic APM, Jaeger)
    • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and configuration management with Ansible
    • AWS and production cloud environments
    • Kubernetes in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with Git and Docker.
  • Programming or scripting skills, preferably in Python and Bash.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, firewalls and load balancing.
  • Experience troubleshooting production systems, automating operational processes and continuously improving platform reliability.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and drive technical initiatives from concept to production.

Why join us?

  • Work on modern cloud-native platforms supporting millions of customers across Europe.
  • Collaborate with experienced Platform Engineers, SREs and Principal Engineers in a highly technical environment.
  • Take ownership of business-critical platform services with real impact across our engineering organisation.
  • Be part of a collaborative culture that values automation, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
