Build the platform that powers engineering at scale

As part of our Developer Experience team, you’ll be at the heart of how engineering happens at Capitec — shaping the developer journey end-to-end and enabling teams to build, ship and innovate with confidence at scale.

What you’ll do

• We will rely on you to design and implement infrastructure using code, enabling consistent, repeatable and scalable environments across our cloud platform.
• We will expect you to build and optimise cloud-native deployment pipelines that support high-frequency, low-risk releases.
• We will look to you to enhance our internal developer platform, improving how engineers provision infrastructure and deploy services
• We will count on you to troubleshoot complex platform and performance issues across distributed systems and lead root-cause investigations
• We will expect you to contribute to architectural decisions across microservices, event-driven systems and cloud-native patterns.
• We will rely on you to mentor other engineers and raise the engineering standard across the team.

About our team

We operate within a broader platform engineering function responsible for developer experience, Kubernetes and platform support. This role sits in the team focused on our internal developer platform — the tooling engineers use to provision infrastructure, build pipelines and deploy into our cloud environment.

Our platform is used by multiple engineering teams across the business and is central to how we deliver software at scale. The team currently includes engineers across multiple seniority levels, and we are adding another senior engineer to strengthen our technical depth.

What we’re looking for

• We are looking for deep experience in platform engineering, site reliability or DevOps engineering
• We expect at least five years of hands-on experience working in cloud environments
• We require strong experience building infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or similar
• We are looking for solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (for example Jenkins or GitHub Actions)
• We expect strong hands-on experience with containers and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes
• We are looking for experience designing and operating cloud-native systems, including microservices and event-driven architectures
• We require strong scripting or programming capability (for example Python, Go, Bash or PowerShell)
• We value experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, supported by relevant certifications
• We expect a strong understanding of networking, security, APIs, databases and distributed systems
• We are looking for engineers who can clearly explain their architecture decisions and the systems they’ve built
• We value experience leading or influencing engineering practices and mentoring others
