Job Description

Join City of Moreton Bay's forward-thinking Commercial Services team and help deliver projects that will shape the future of one of Australia's fastest-growing cities.

This is not your typical planning role within local government.

Positioned within our Commercial Services team rather than a traditional planning function, this unique opportunity allows an experienced planner to apply their expertise across commercial land development, asset activation initiatives and strategic land transactions. You'll play a key role in unlocking value from Council-owned assets while contributing to projects that create lasting benefits for our community.

Our team is delivering some of the city's most exciting and high-profile initiatives, including supporting PsiQuantum's world-first utility-scale quantum computing project, progressing the ongoing activation of the Moreton Bay Central precinct, and leading a comprehensive program to identify and realise opportunities across Council's land portfolio.

As the dedicated planning specialist within the team, you will provide trusted strategic advice and work closely with the Manager Land and Building Development to deliver innovative land and property outcomes aligned with Council's priorities.

What you'll be doing

Working collaboratively across Council and with external stakeholders, you will:

  • Provide planning, due diligence, feasibility, development and property expertise to unlock opportunities, stimulate economic growth and achieve strategic land use outcomes.
  • Deliver commercially sound, compliant and timely land transactions, balancing value creation, risk management and sustainable development objectives.
  • Support the delivery of development and activation opportunities across identified priority sites, Council's surplus land program and broader asset optimisation initiatives.
  • Ensure projects align with the Planning Act 2016 (Qld), relevant planning schemes and Council's strategic planning objectives.
  • Provide expert professional advice while proactively managing project risks and escalating complex, high-risk or sensitive matters as required.
  • Contribute to innovative place-making, economic development and land activation projects that will help shape the future of our city.

Opportunities like this are rare. If you're looking for a role that combines planning, commercial strategy, development facilitation and property outcomes, this is your chance to help maximise the value and potential of Council-owned land assets while delivering meaningful community outcomes.

About You

You are an experienced planning professional with a strong understanding of Queensland's planning framework and a passion for delivering commercially focused outcomes. You bring:

  • Extensive knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 (Qld), Planning Regulation and Development Assessment Rules.
  • A thorough understanding of local government planning schemes, including zoning, overlays, codes and assessment benchmarks relevant to the City of Moreton Bay.
  • Demonstrated experience in statutory development assessment processes, approval pathways and compliance requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of due diligence requirements associated with land transactions, including planning, environmental, servicing and legal considerations.
  • Experience undertaking feasibility assessments and analysing land development and property opportunities.
  • An understanding of economic development, place-making and land activation principles within a local government or related environment.
  • The ability to build strong relationships, influence outcomes and work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.

Most importantly, you're excited by the opportunity to be part of an agile, commercially focused team that is helping shape a vibrant, sustainable and connected city.
