Summary

The City of Missouri City, known as the “Show Me City,” is seeking an individual to serve in this full-time (First/Mid-Level Officials and Managers) position within the City’s Development Services Department, Planning and Development Division. An individual in this position oversees complex, sensitive projects in planning.

The reporting relationship is to the Assistant Planning Director.

Examples of duties

• Organizes and administers research studies, conducts analysis and prepares reports/recommendations regarding land use, infrastructure improvements, environmental requirements and other matters.
• May serve as primary City liaison with multiple state, regional and local boards and committees; prepare reports and other input for these bodies; prepare and develops presentations to decision-makers (including City Council) and the public.
• Oversee the work of consultants; drafts requests for proposals or qualifications; prepare consulting agreements; monitors consultant contracts and project budgets;
• Ensures applicant submissions meet requirements; coordinates development proposals, reviews with other departments; prepare technical comments and compile zoning history information for each case;
• Analyze planning issues and determine project schedules and priorities;
• Ensure additional or revised information is provided by applicant; prepare graphics for each case; prepare memos, reports and details for final packet printing and distribution. Coordinate and reviews legal ads prior to mailing and newspaper submission;
• Perform other related duties as assigned;
• Subject to 24-hour recall.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or with minimum of eight (8) years of related professional experience required.
• Master’s Degree: Master’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience. AICP certification preferred.
