Job Description

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope:

  • Lead the development of efficient piping designs for capital projects supporting multiple sites and projects concurrently on a local and regional basis, and globally as needed across businesses.
  • Translate process, utility, equipment, and project requirements into safe, maintainable, constructible piping layouts and design deliverables.
  • Lead development and maintenance of piping design practices, CAD/3D modeling standards, drawing quality, and project design execution tools.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Participate as a project team member and piping discipline lead for large, complex capital projects.
  • Lead piping design and closeout documentation in accordance with the engineering execution process, including design basis information, drawing revisions, construction records, and as-built updates.
  • Lead development of piping design requirements and assemble estimate information such as preliminary layouts, material takeoffs, tie-in information, and constructability input.
  • Lead piping design package development including 3D models, piping layouts, plans, sections, isometrics, pipe support details, tie-in details, demolition drawings, bill of materials, and vendor information.
  • Develop piping designs that satisfy project and process requirements while supporting safe operation, ergonomic access, maintainability, cleanability, drainage, constructability, and future maintenance needs.
  • Model equipment connections, nozzles, valves, fittings, specialty items, pipe supports, access clearances, and routing constraints in the 3D design environment.
  • Perform and lead field walkdowns to verify existing conditions, collect measurements, confirm tie-in points, identify interferences, and validate constructability before issuing design packages.
  • Coordinate closely with process, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, construction, operations, maintenance, and project management stakeholders.
  • Review P&IDs, utility flow diagrams, equipment layouts, piping specifications, vendor drawings, and field information to develop integrated piping deliverables.
  • Provide expert guidance to project teams and engineers in piping layout, equipment arrangement, 3D modeling, constructability, installation sequencing, and construction details.
  • Lead and provide technical oversight of equipment vendors, engineering consultants, EPCM firms, fabricators, and contractors for piping-related deliverables.
  • Support design reviews, model reviews, hazard reviews, constructability reviews, and project readiness reviews by identifying piping risks, clashes, missing information, and technical gaps.
  • Support project commissioning, checkout, and startup activities related to designer responsibilities, including resolution of field questions and documentation updates.
  • Lead development and maintenance of piping design standards, CAD tools, drawing templates, details, and discipline-specific design practices.
