Job Description

The Opportunity

Design What Comes Next

Our Energy subsector, a key component of WSP's Energy, Resources and Industry (ERI) sector, supports clients across Canada and around the world through every stage of the project lifecycle. From small-scale facilities to integrated mega-projects, we provide engineering, design and environmental services that support traditional energy markets and the transition toward lower-carbon solutions.

Join our growing team in any of our Canadian offices across Alberta, Ontario, or British Columbia. As a Senior Piping Designer, you will play a leadership role in the delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects, guiding piping design activities from conceptual engineering through detailed design and construction support. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams while mentoring junior designers and contributing technical expertise to ensure high-quality project execution.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of energy projects, including biomass, geothermal, hydrogen, renewable natural gas, fossil fuels, carbon capture, battery energy storage, and hydroelectric generation.

Your Impact

  • Lead piping design activities on multidisciplinary energy projects from concept through detailed engineering.
  • Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, equipment layouts, piping arrangements, isometrics, and construction packages.
  • Direct the development and maintenance of 3D plant models using industry-standard design software.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and quality oversight to intermediate and junior designers.
  • Coordinate interfaces between piping, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines.
  • Review vendor and third-party engineering documentation and incorporate design requirements into project deliverables.
  • Participate in field reviews, site investigations, and construction support activities as required.
  • Identify scope changes, technical risks, and opportunities to improve project delivery and client outcomes.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Diploma in Engineering Design, Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive piping design experience within industrial, energy, oil & gas, power generation, or related sectors.
  • Advanced experience developing and reviewing complex piping layouts and plant design deliverables.
  • Demonstrated expertise using CADWorx, Plant 3D, or similar 3D modelling platforms.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry codes, standards, specifications, and drafting practices.
  • Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects and providing technical leadership to design teams.
  • Experience within an EPCM consulting environment is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and lead design efforts.
