This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a new portfolio in the Professional Indemnity sector, focusing exclusively on the Irish market. You will be the lead underwriter in Ireland for a well-established London based MGA that has been trading since 2015, responsible with the CEO for the launch of a new product backed by A’ Rated capacity.

This position is ideal for an experienced underwriter seeking the flexibility of a modern work arrangement while being part of a dynamic and collaborative team. With access to an established underwriting network, you’ll play a critical role in defining and implementing strategies to achieve profitable growth in this niche, high-potential market.

The MGA you will be working for has a track record of delivering excellent results for capacity over a sustained period of time, and has long-term relationships with all of its insurer partners.

What will your job entail?

Your Role:

• Portfolio Management: Build and manage a profitable Professional Indemnity portfolio, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall growth strategy. Working closely with our co-CEO's to deliver a sustainable, and profitable portfolio over time.
• Risk Analysis: Develop and refine underwriting frameworks, risk appetites, and pricing models tailored to Professional Indemnity risks. Having some understanding of actuarial techniques will be considered advantageous, but not essential.
• Broker Relationships: Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with brokers across Ireland and beyond, securing high-quality business. You will be expected to have a significant following of support from brokers in the Irish market, and be able to evidence this and be able to work autonomously, reporting directly to the UK CEO.
• Market Trends: Be up to date and aware of developments within the Professional Indemnity space, and have a solid understanding or regulatory and compliance matters.
• Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, such as claims and operations, as well as external partners, to support sustainable portfolio growth.

Your Skills:

• Expertise: Significant experience in underwriting Professional Indemnity or related financial lines, ideally within an insurer.
• Autonomy: Proven ability to operate independently, taking initiative to grow and manage a PI portfolio from the ground up
• Market Insight: Comprehensive understanding of the Irish insurance market.
• Analytical Thinking: Strong grasp of pricing models and risk factors specific to Professional Indemnity products.
• Relationship Building: Excellent communication and negotiation skills for developing and managing long-term broker relationships.

Your Experience:

• Experience: Demonstrable market experience, with proven track record of managing a PI team, or having worked within a portfolio management function. Must be able to evidence a significant broker following given the ‘startup’ nature of this opportunity. Candidate of choice will be an organised, methodical, self-starter that can operate autonomously with minimal supervision, and be capable of providing routine management updates.
